Kindle DX With Global Wireless Coming Soon

Customers have been asking Amazon to bring global wireless services to the 9.7 inch Kindle DX ever since Amazon came out with the 6 inch Kindle with Global Wireless. For the last three months Amazon has been promising that the Kindle DX will soon have global wireless service and now there's this wording on their website: "Kindle DX now with Global Wireless" although it's actually a dead link as of now, this does appear to indicate that they are close to having it available.

This will change the decision making process for those choosing between a 9.7 inch DX and the 6 inch "Global Kindle" (this description will no longer make sense when all Kindles are global!)

The decision will come down entirely to size (the DX has both a bigger display and more memory), price (the DX is over $200 more expensive), and the extra features that the DX has (auto rotating screen and native PDF support.) This news, of course, is most exciting to those living outside of the US because it will give them a choice of choosing the larger Kindle (until now only the 6 inch version has worked outside of the United States.)

There are actually many more similarities between the two versions of this wireless reading device than there are differences. What follows are some of the features that they share:

+ Access to about 400,000 books, magazines, & newspapers (with more being added all the time.)

+ Download a book anywhere with 3G wireless (no hunting for a wi-fi spot) in just 60 seconds.

+ Text to speech software that can read your books to you.

+ Basic text based web browser with no wireless charges.

+ "Paper like" display that's easy on the eyes (no glare.)

+ Thin & light (easy to carry.)

+ It's easier to turn pages than with a real book.

The Kindle DX and the Global Kindle make great gifts for anyone who loves to read (and they make exceptional gifts to yourself!)
