The Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On Light Is a Great Option for Kindle Reading in Dark Surroundings

Reading from the Kindle e-reader can be difficult in dark or dimly lit environments due to the fact that the Kindle does not have a built-in backlight. Instead, the Kindle uses sophisticated E Ink technology to emulate the experience of reading a book.

However, if you plan on reading from your Kindle in situations that require some accessory lighting, you are in luck. There are several lightweight reading lights that are designed to clip on to the Kindle and providing the necessary illumination. Of these options, the Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 stands out as a superior choice, and at an excellent price to boot.

The XtraFlex2 consists of a clip attached to an adjustable arm, at the end of which is the light source. It is simply clamped to the frame of the Kindle, or its case if desired, and the arm is positioned and oriented to illuminate the Kindle screen without getting in the way of reading. Importantly, the XtraFlex2 incorporates an optical-grade lens that spreads the light evenly across the Kindle screen without producing any glare. The light intensity can even be adjusted between 1 and 2 LEDs (which together have the lighting power of 6 normal LEDs) depending on the reading environment. These LEDs have a 100,000 hour lifetime and thus will likely never need to be replaced assuming normal use.

A nice feature of the XtraFlex2 is that its clip can open wide enough to clip onto objects other than the Kindle, such as the edge of a desk or a bedpost. The clip is also padded on both sides to prevent any damage to the Kindle.

It is important for an accessory reading light to be portable, and the XtraFlex2 does not disappoint in this regard. At only 4.8 ounces and with the flexible arm, it can be folded up tightly for easy transport. It is sold in both black and white versions, but it is worth noting that a range of other colors are available for the XtraFlex2 version that is not specifically designed for the Kindle, including silver, blue, green, pink, and purple. You will want to make sure this generic design will work with your Kindle (or other e-reader) before ordering.

As of this writing, the XtraFlex2 has over 800 total reviews on Amazon.com with an average rating of 4 stars, which is excellent. It retails for just $14.99 (Kindle version) or $16.99 (generic version) on Amazon, making it a relatively inexpensive way to enable Kindle reading in dimly lit surroundings. In fact, the XtraFlex2 can be clipped onto regular books as well, or even used as a desk or utility light when needed. It really is quite versatile.

The fact that the Kindle does not have a built-in backlight is not really such a concern when a high quality clip-on reading light like the XtraFlex2 by Mighty Bright is available at a reasonable price. With its small, sleek design, long-lasting, adjustable lighting power, and convenient clamping capability, the XtraFlex2 is simply the best accessory reading light for the Kindle on the market. Hopefully, this review will prompt you to take a closer look at the XtraFlex2 as a way to enable reading from your Kindle anytime and anywhere.

New Leather Kindle Cover With Built In Light!

Ever tried to read with your Kindle in the dark? Tired of using clip on reading lights? Luckily for you Amazon has developed a new leather lighted Kindle cover for your 3G. Protecting your Kindle is very important because like many electronic devices an e-reader can be damaged during everyday use. You do not want your screen to become scratched or scuffed which could take away from your reading experience. So why not kill two birds with one stone.

This new case is built using premium leather which offers outstanding protection for your Kindle device. With a sleek design and beautiful leather exterior this cover feels good in your hands while looking stylish. With seven different colors to choose from you are sure to find a style the works for you. The interior of this case is lined with a microfiber material which will never scratch or scuff your screen. The added benefit of this soft interior is when the front cover is folded completely back for one handed reading.

The top feature offered by Amazon's new cover is the built in reading light. When not in use the light stores neatly away inside the back of the cover, it is as if the light was never there. When a reading light is needed you simply pull it up from the corner and you are set. The lamp uses LED bulbs to create an efficient light source that does not cause the screen to glare. Though the light itself is not adjustable, it still creates an even and sufficient amount of light across the entire screen. You never need to worry about checking batteries in the reading lamp because the power is drawn directly from your kindle. This means if you Kindle will turn on then so will your light.

The cover attaches to your Kindle 3G using two brass tabs. These tabs are also the source which draws the power for the light. These tabs ensure that your Kindle is securely attached and will not fall out if you drop or bump you e-reader. This case with your kindle installed adds a bit of weight at almost 1lb, but it also gives you the feel of quality unlike flimsy cases that feel like they might fall apart. When it comes to protecting your investment you do not want to go cheap and pay the price in the long run.

As a conclusion to this article I think it is obvious that I am a fan of Amazon's new lighted Kindle cover. I recommend you do some shopping around of course and make sure you get a case that fits all your needs. You can find more coverage on Amazon's new lighted Kindle cover, and other cases available for your e-reader at Lighted Kindle Cover! Remember you do not have to fumble around with a reading lamp that was built for a paper back book, and you don't have to blend in with the crowd. With so many different cases and covers available you can surely find something to set you apart from the rest.

Kindle Lighted Leather Cover - The Best Way To Cover Your Kindle and Always Carry A Reading Light!

The Kindle Lighted Leather Cover now offers Kindle users a stylish and practical way to keep their device protected when they're on move, whilst ensuring that they are never without a reading light.

The clever design incorporates a reading light which slides away into the cover whilst not in use to become completely invisible. The light is powered directly from the Kindle itself, via the patented gold-plated hinge mechanism.

When you first encase your Kindle in the cover, you'll be impressed at the snug fit. The build quality is immediately evident, and the pebble-grained leather exterior looks very smart. I bought a blue cover, but they are available in seven different colours.

The Kindle is securely fastened inside the case by the hinge mechanism, and whilst shut, an elastic strap ensures the Kindle remains protected. The interior of the casing is made from soft microfibers, to ensure the screen remains scratch-free.

One of my main concerns was whether the light sufficiently illuminated the Kindle display, as some of the promotional pictures suggest that the light only works well for the top-right corner of the screen. A quick test proved this wasn't the case - the promotional pictures in this case are slightly misleading.

The dimensions of the case are as follows:

Kindle Lighted Leather Cover Weight

Weight without Kindle: 8 oz
Weight with Kindle: 15.75 oz

Kindle Lighted Leather Cover Size

Front & Back: 7 3/4" x 5 1/8"
Spine: 7/8 "
Thickness: 3/4 "
Open side (with Kindle inside): 3/4 "

As far as the cover goes, there is very little to fault. It does exactly what it's supposed to do, very well. It is perhaps a little on the heavy side - doubling the weight of the Kindle itself - but even then it just feels sturdy, rather than heavy.

This is the perfect solution to the only real issue with the Kindle - the lack of a backlight. This is great for bright conditions - allowing you to read easily in the sunshine - but not so great when it's pitch black. With the Kindle Lighted Leather Cover you have a light when you need one, and when you don't need it - it slides away invisibly into the cover.

The cover is expensive, coming in at just under $60. Having said that, given you'd pay $35 for a cover without the built-in light, I would say the added convenience is worth the extra money.

Overall, you get exactly what you pay for. Although it may seem slightly on the expensive side, the cover is a smart, stylish, elegant and practical accessory - a perfect and, for me, essential companion for one of the gadgets of the year. Reading A Kindle In The Dark: Guide To Picking Out The Best Kindle Light

If you like to read books at bedtime but your spouse needs to sleep then you're more than likely used to reading with the help of a book light. Reading a Kindle in the dark needs similar helpful light.

Kindle: difficult to read in the dark?

Some people are astonished when they find out that a Kindle is difficult to read in the dark. But if you really think about it then it makes perfect sense. The Kindle has been cleverly designed so that the display looks and feels just like real ink on real paper. This is not a backlit screen like the one you would find on a personal computer, this is e-ink technology. And the lack of a backlit screen means that just the same as a paperback book if you intend to read in the dark you will have to use the best Kindle reading light.

You might decide this is a flaw of the Kindle, but the lack of a backlit screen is in fact what makes this reading device so wonderful. It would be very hard for you to renounce your favourite paperback books if you got tired eyes whenever you attempted to read. And those other eReaders with backlit screens can't be read in bright sunlight, so they're not too practical for taking away on vacation either.

With the Kindle you will soon believe you're reading real ink on real paper, and reading in bright sunlight is as painless as reading a paperback. Now you understand just why backlit screens are inferior, and reading lights are acceptable let's take a look at the best lights for reading a Kindle in the dark.

Clip on Kindle reading lights

The first kind of kindle light is a clip on one. As the name implies these useful lights just clip on to the top of your Kindle. You don't have to hold the light separately and the LED light is intense enough for you to read the screen clearly without being so bright that you have to worry about waking your sleeping companion!

You could visit your local bookstore to find out if they have any cheap clip on lights that are designed for use with paperback books, or you could invest in a proper Kindle clip on light that might cost a bit more but will have been primarily designed for your Kindle.

Kindle light cases

Your other option is to invest in a case with a Kindle light already built in. The benefit of this option is that the Kindle light tucks away safely inside the cover when not in use.

Some of the lights use their own power but others are intended to draw the power from your Kindle. This means that as long as there is power in your Kindle you don't have to worry about the light failing to work when you need to read your Kindle at bed time.

Kindle Lighted Covers Shed More Light Onto the (Reading) Matter

When Amazon came out with the Kindle e-reader, they offered a device which allowed book-lovers to bring their favorite hard-bounds with them, without the bulk that normally comes with the regular book. Stylish, more space-efficient and technology-driven were the advantages of Kindle. But when people bought their own units, that's when they realized that it was a bundled package -- it gave them the advantages, and more, than what the regular paperbacks had to offer. But it also presented it's disadvantages... you have to protect it from scratches and, similar to a regular book, you can't read it without sufficient lighting. With that, out came the Kindle Lighted Covers to address these issues facing Kindle owners.

Kindle Lighted Covers include:

* an integrated, retractable LED reading light

* contoured, pebble-grain leather

* no extra batteries needed (the light draws minimal power from the batteries of your Kindle)

* patent-pending hinge system which secures Kindle in place

* 7 available colors to choose from

Kindle Lighted Covers are perfect for taking Kindle wherever you go. The sleek leather ensures the ultimate fit and protection, without adding bulk or weight. The new design seamlessly incorporates a reading light into the Kindle lighted cover, so you can carry your Kindle wherever you go and always have a reading light with you. Simply pull the light out to illuminate Kindle when you need it, and slide it away to be invisible when you don't. And since the light draws its power from Kindle, no batteries are needed.

An elastic strap keeps the cover firmly closed for maximum screen protection. Simply attach Kindle to the hinge, apply the strap, and rest assured it will stay securely in place even when you're on the go.

In addition to securing Kindle in place, the new hinge system conducts electricity from Kindle's battery to the reading light - when Kindle is attached to the hinge, an electrical connection is formed that powers the light.

The Kindle lighted cover's hinge points are gold-plated, to ensure a reliable electrical connection. Gold is used because of its ability to make good electrical contact even with low force, and for its corrosion resistance.

The contoured, pebble-grain leather (you can choose from 7 different colors) keeps your Kindle safe and secure, while the soft charcoal microfiber interior protects the screen from scratches. The cover is designed to fold back, so you can read comfortably with just one hand.

Kindle Lighted Covers have a high-quality LED light that illuminates Kindle's paper-like display, adding brightness without adding glare. You'll never be without a reading light with the all-new Kindle Lighted Covers.
