How It Works: Publishing to Kindle

The publishing industry has changed, and as writers we need to learn how to change with it. The trend has changed from traditional books to the eBook and Amazon is leading the way. The retail giant recently announced that Kindle books have officially overtook paperbacks for the first time. Jump on this trend by publishing to Kindle.

Getting Started

Amazon makes it easy to get started. First you will need an Amazon Direct Publishing account. If you are an Amzon.com customer, you can even use the same email and password. You will be required to enter your name, address, and tax information. You will also be asked the most important question which is how you want to be paid.

Edit and Then Edit Some More

No amount of publicity or promotion can make up for a poorly written and edited book. Upload on your very best work that has been proofed numerous times by several people. Part of the stigma attached to self published titles is the poor quality of the copy editing. Don't be part of that problem. Take the time to edit your book thoroughly.

Design Your Cover

Regardless of all the warnings, people do judge a book by its cover. Sure you can \design your own or hire someone to do it for you, but keep in mind that this is different than print. Your cover must stand out from others on a webpage, that's a little different than standing out on a shelf. Your goal is to make your cover so intriguing that people just have to click the title and learn more. (Hint: Test possible cover designs on your blog or website and let your readers select the best one, the answers will surprise you.)

Upload Your Content

Kindle Direct Publishing makes it easy to upload your content by supporting many document formats such as.zip,.doc,.pdf,.epub,.txt, and.mobi and.prc. Select your format and upload your book and cover where indicated. It couldn't be easier.

Publish Your Book

Publishing to Kindle requires very little effort once your content is uploaded. You will be asked about digital rights management, royalty preferences, book price, and a description of your book. There is a debate as to the best price for Kindle books, but most self published authors agree that sales are better when books are priced below three dollars.

Promote Your Book

All that is left to do is for you to promote your book. This can be as simple as telling your family and friends or it can be as complicated as a ten page marketing plan. The point is that success of your book depends not only on the quality of the work, but also that amount of work you put into getting the word out. And you thought the hard part was writing the book!

Now that you know the basics to publishing on Kindle, why don't you get started living the life of a Kindle author?

History of Amazon Kindle

Amazon Kindle was released by the online bookstore in November of 2007. The company, Amazon, is known as one of the largest online retail stores of books, and holds thousands of some of the best known titles in books. The concept behind this digital book reader is one that includes a consolidation of books in one small hand-held device. Through this e-book device, individuals can begin reading in a completely new way.

How Amazon Kindle Works

The concept of the Amazon Kindle is one that, through it's initial launch, is bringing a new way of reading through using a wireless reading device. The digital portal can hold up to 200 titles of books, allowing you to scroll through and read different titles at once. Along with this, are over 200,000 working titles that can now be downloaded on the portal. With this is the ability to download the content into electronic paper with the Amazon Kindle Format or through the Mobi Pocket Book, which allows the pages to have a specific look when you read them. These will be in formats such as plain text, PDF or even Jpeg images. Along with this, is a new and revolutionary way to connect to the books that you are reading.

Since Kindle often mis-spelled as Kindell or Kindel is also known for it's concepts as a digital reader, it becomes important to keep connected. With most wireless devices, this means finding a hot spot with the reader. However, with the Amazon Kindle, the wireless device allows you to connect anywhere and download the books you want to read at any time. As long as you have access to coverage of Sprint's EVDO Network, you can easily begin reading as much as you want.

Who Is Reading With the Amazon Kindle?

Amazon Vs Apple - Nth Round - A New Kindle in the Works?

In today's modern world where handheld gadgets like ebook readers and tablet PCs are fast becoming mainstream consumer devices, online retailer giant Amazon and tech conglomerate Apple are continually being pitted against each other. And with good reason too.

The Job

The latest development in this saga? Amazon's search for a Software Engineer to join its ereader division Lab126. This is evidenced by the company's job listing that called for someone who can create and implement new browser features and support current browser applications. With such job requirements, it's easy to foresee some drastic upgrades to the Kindle.

Kindle vs iPad Anew

Bloggers and tech reporters are again all over the Amazon vs. Apple battle. Why? Well, it is obvious from the job post that Amazon is seeking an engineer that can improve on the web browser for the Kindle. This could mean they are creating a new product to directly compete with the iPad. Which means that Steve Jobs better be shaking in his boots. Sarcasm aside, we still aren't looking at the fact that the Kindle and iPad are different markets.

The Consumer Marketing Director of Freescale Semiconductor, Glen Burchers argues that both the Kindle and iPad can co-exist without "killing" each other. By the way, Freescale Semiconductor manufactures chips for ereaders, so the marketing director does know a thing or two about this niche.

Specifically, the iPad is a multi-tasking gadget that does offer ereading, but its focus is on web browsing, emails and media playing. It is marketed towards younger users like students who spend a lot of time online, and on their phone. The Kindle is bought by an older crowd who simply want to read the newly released novel.

A New Generation Kindle in the Works?

There's no doubt that Amazon is on the road to creating the next generation Kindle. In addition to the job posting, they also acquired Touchco recently. Touchco is a multi-touch technology. We may see a Kindle with an expanded feature set. Who knows, Amazon hasn't said, nor have they commented on the job posting.

It's alright everyone, some consumers simply want to read their ebooks without app interruptions, and aren't interested in purchasing an iPad. Amazon is just doing its job by creating the next generation Kindle (so we think). It is so interesting how we automatically see it as the next chapter in the Kindle/Apple drama.

Instead of putting emphasis on the Amazon vs Apple saga, why don't we just focus on the awesome gadgets themselves? Visit us and find out why the Kindle is the most popular ebook reader today!

How Kindle Works And Helps Read eBooks?

Kindle is an eBook reader from the makers called Amazon. It is a very famous tool these days because an eBook can do what normal books cannot do. Digital technology has made things work better. eBooks are getting popular and are replacing books, magazines and even newspapers. Any kind of article can be read on an eBook reader which supports many file formats. Some of them are.DOC,.DOCX, PDF,.HTML, MOBI, etc. Because of this many top brands have released eBook readers. The famous brands include Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, HP and the latest addition is "Kindle" from Amazon.

Kindle has two versions, Kindle and Kindle 2. Kindle 2 is obviously the advanced version and has higher memory and power. Kindle stores 200 titles while Kindle 2 can store up to 1500 titles. Any content can be downloaded from the Internet or rather Amazon.com. Kindle has a wireless network access which allows user to download anything directly. Kindle supports most formats but does not include PDF file formats. However, it converts PDF files to the AZW format, which is the default Kindle document format, so that the user can read the piece.

The process of working on Kindle is pretty simple. One has to visit Amazon.com and find any article, book or magazine to read and then download it directly or it can be downloaded using a computer. The newer version of Kindle also offers 3G service. The book can be opened in the reader with the buttons given and can go through the pages using the scroll button. Kindle has to be recharged every two days as it has a battery backup of only up to 48 hours. The cost of Kindle is very reasonable and it can be bought online on eBay or any other better site. eBooks range from $2 to $10 and they can be purchased and downloaded within a jiffy.

Thus, Kindle is a very simple mechanical device that can affect our lives in a very huge and significant way.

Nook Vs Kindle Vs iPad - The Works!

In the world of ebook readers, the common comparison has always been between Nook vs Kindle vs iPad.

If you want to make sure that you get what you pay for, then you are also likely to ask, "Should I buy an iPad? Or a Kindle? Or maybe a Nook?

To help you make your decision, I've put down a list of Nook vs Kindle vs iPad facts.

To compare Nook, Kindle, iPad, check the following facts:

1. Price: When it comes to price, Nook and Kindle are head to head, with both prices ranging from $190-$260. Apple iPad on the other hand costs around $500-$630. Nook could be slightly more expensive than Kindle because Barnes & Noble sometimes charge taxes in their deployed locations while Amazon Kindle doesn't. Thus when it comes to price, Kindle has it.

2. Battery Life: Once again Kindle is leading when it comes to battery life. It can last up to 2 weeks while iPad can last only up to 12 hours and Nook only lasts 10 hours.

3. Storage: If you compare Nook vs iPad vs Kindle in terms of storage, then the sure winner will be Barnes & Noble's Nook. Aside from its 500,000 built-in storage, it comes with a microSD slot that expands the Nook's external memory, allowing you to store more eBooks to your liking. Kindle has a capacity of 450,000 books (2GB), while iPad can only have 60,000 books.

4. Content: Thumbs up will be for Amazon Kindle. Although it is 50,000 short of titles compared to Nook, most reviews favor Kindle because it offers titles that are more in demand to readers. iPad lags behind as it doesn't have too many books to compete.

5. Portability / Size and weight: Thinking about Nook vs iPad vs Kindle when it comes to size and weight, the leading model once again would be Kindle. It only weighs 10.2-ounces and has a 0.36-in thinness. Nook weight 12.1-ounces and is 0.5-in thick. iPad on the other hand is big and bulky for the traveling reader, weighing almost 1.5-lbs.

6. Connectivity: The comparison is hard between Kindle and Nook. Currently the device that has the better connectivity is Nook as it both has 3G and Wi-Fi, plus it can be in sync with other devices through Android-technology. Kindle2 though has International Wireless Capability, and soon there will also be a Kindle-Android.

7. Touch Screen: iPad has the most advantage when it comes to screen features. It rates high in color, resolution and touch-screen ability. Nook is also colored and touch-screen though. And Kindle is black-and-white and not at all touch-screen.

8. Readability: Kindle is said to be more reader-friendly because aside from its electronic ink, its contrast is so much better compared to Nook and iPad. Both the screens of Nook and iPad could be glary, thus could be faulty when reading on direct sunlight or during nighttime.

9.Text-to-speech: Kindle and iPad competes fairly as both have text-to-speech features; Nook doesn't.

10. Other Nook vs Kindle vs iPad considerations: Nook has book lending and in-store browsing options. iPad has web browsing, email sending, and even gaming capabilities.

Kindle Vs Kindle 3g - Deciding on Which Works Best for Your Life Style Before Buying

When it comes comparing the Kindle vs Kindle 3g, and deciding which is best for your lifestyle, you can't go wrong with either choice. Both versions of the Kindle wireless reading device are fully equipped to satisfy the pickiest of pallets of book enthusiasts.

The avid reader can put the Kindle vs Kindle 3g in a heavy weight wireless reading device match and under the brightest of spotlights and both will come out as a champion.

If you are walking the middle ground on which device is best for you then the list of items below will help guide your decision to buy either the Kindle or the Kindle 3g.

Home Body vs Around Town Out and About Person

If you are typically a reader that loves to curl up to a good book at home then the Kindle is your likely choice. This is especially true if you have a high speed internet connection and a wireless connection at your home since you can easily set up your Kindle to connect to the internet using your home wifi connection.

On the opposite end of the spectrum if you love to be out and about and all around town at places like Starbucks, the park, or an airport; and do not have a wireless high speed internet connection at home, then the Kindle 3g would probably serve you better.

Does Size Matter?

When comparing the Kindle to the Kindle 3g then size does not matter; and weight does not either. Both wireless reading devices are 7.5" x 4.8" and about as thick as a number 2 pencil. Plus both Kindles are within 2 ounces of each other; and an ounce here or there won't make a difference at all when we are talking about less than a pound.

Will the Battery Die at the Wrong Time?

Whether you are snuggled up with your Kindle next to the fireplace or out and about with a Kindle 3g the last thing that you want to do is have your battery die in the heat of a good book.

With either device the battery life mainly depends on if the wireless function is in use or not. Without using the wireless capability that each Kindle comes with means that the battery will last about a month. On the other hand the Kindle wins at a battery life of 3 weeks with the wireless turned on and about 10 days with wireless turned on with the Kindle 3g. The important thing here is that the battery life will ultimately be determined by the wireless usage - so just be safe and monitor the battery and charge your Kindle as necessary.
