What's So Great About the New Kindle 3G WiFi Wireless Reading Device?

So what is so great about the new Kindle 3G from Amazon? Nothing except you can take an entire personal public library of up to 3,500 books with you in a size about the space of a business letter envelope. Add to that you personal mp3 collection, and all your personal documents stored as PDF files and you're set to go. All of this can be pass word protected for security as well. One of the coolest features about the new Kindle 3G WiFi is the ability to connect to the Internet. Browse Amazon for the latest titles for immediate download, or check out your favorite web site.. No WiFi connection? No sweat. The new 3G technology allows you to connect in 100 countries of the world by utilizing cell phone technology.

Kindle now allows you to store and listen to all your favorite music with its built in mp3 player. The new Kindle 3G WiFi Wireless Reading Device will even play background music as you read.

Too tired to read? Kindle will read to you in either a male or a female voice at your choosing.

Kindle also has loads of accessories available to spice things up for you. Choose a decorative cover to protect your Kindle. Or, give it a brand new "artsy" look with a new skin. Attachable reading lights are available so that you can read Kindle anywhere. Get a pair of high quality headphones to listen to your mp3 collection in private.

Stay ahead of the competition with a subscription to the Wall Street Journal or Time magazine, or any one of dozens of newspapers and magazines. The latest news is often available in Kindle form before the print version comes out.

Now for a couple of minor issues:

The Internet connectivity, though amazingly good is still not what you would get with your laptop computer. The screen on the Kindle 3G WiFi Reading Device is smaller of course and you may need to zoom certain things to see them clearly. Also, the flash function is not available, so playing Internet videos is out of the question at this point.

PDF files are a little small for my eyes. However, you can change the screen orientation to view them landscape which helps. You can also select your screen font size which helps even more. Just a minor irritation in my book considering all the other stuff you get. Definitely worth checking out!

If you're considering the purchase of a Kindle 3G WiFi Wireless Reading Device be sure you click the link. I have written very extensive review on it there, so read every word before you decide to buy. Be sure to check out the user reviews and the video. This should give you a very good picture of the functions and help you decide if it's right for you.

Amazon Kindle Makes Great Christmas Present This Year

If you've been trying to think of a good Christmas present for the book lover in your family, maybe it's time to get that person an e-book reader. While there are several options on the market now, it's hard to go wrong with the Amazon Kindle. Their new models are very affordable, and there are lots of other features to make this device a winner. Let's take a look:

Easy-to-read "book like" screen

One of the things you'll notice when you turn on a Kindle is there aren't a lot of bells and whistles on the screen - there's not even color! The low-glare Kindle screen is designed so you can read comfortably in bright sunlight, indoor light, and anything in between. It's not back-lit, like a computer screen, so you can't read it in the dark, but this is exactly what makes it easy on the eyes. It's more akin to reading a real book than gazing at a laptop all day. Grab a kindle cover with an attached reading light (lots of them available), and you'll be able to read it anywhere, anytime.

Compact and lightweight

After years of turning my nose up at e-readers in favor of "good old paperback books," I was finally sold by the idea that I could take dozens (thousands!) of books with me when I traveled, and they'd all be stored in this lightweight device. The new Kindles are smaller than a paperback book, but they can hold thousands of hours' worth of reading material. It's a great gift for anyone who travels, even if it's just to go camping a couple times a year.

Long-life battery

This was another selling point for me. I'm an Apple fan (MacBook, iMac, iPhone, iPod!), but I ultimately chose the Kindle over the iPad because I liked the idea of only needing to charge my e-reader once every couple of weeks. I didn't want something that sucked down more power and required daily charging. With the kindle, you can "read War and Peace on a single charge."

Affordable price

This was another reason I chose the Kindle over the iPad. I didn't need all the fancy apps that come with the Apple e-reader (as I mentioned, I already had all those things on my other Apple devices); I just wanted to read books. This is what the Kindle is designed for, and it does it well. It also does it for less than $200 (less than $150 if you get the least expensive model).

Ease of downloading books

You don't ever have to hook the Kindle up to your computer if you don't want to. The wireless comes without a monthly fee (big plus!), and you can connect to Amazon's "whispernet" to shop for ebooks and download them to your device.

All in all, the Amazon Kindle makes a fine Christmas present for book lovers of all ages. Even non-techy people who aren't gadget-fanatics have been known to love this e-reader. Plus, once you buy someone a Kindle, you'll always know what to get them for Christmas and birthdays in years to come (more ebooks!).

Enjoy, and happy holiday shopping.

Amazon's Kindle Reader And Kindle Books Make A Great Tag Team

In many ways, the Kindle e-book reader is the ideal product for Amazon. It's a great fit for the Amazon business model and benefits greatly from Amazon's well established association with books and reading.

The company's link to books, along with its brand recognition and the trust which that engenders gives consumers confidence that Amazon will not only support its e-book reader hardware in the long term, but that it will also make sure that there is a wide choice of reasonably priced e-books for use with the reader hardware.

In fact, the combination of reader hardware and e-books has been a key factor in the success of the Kindle to date. The huge selection of Kindle books gives customers the confidence to buy Amazon's reader. Similarly, Kindle hardware sales result in additional sales of Kindle books.

Whilst that is intuitively true, if you want some positive proof, you only have to look at the sales spike which Kindle books see every January. The explanation for that is the fact that so many people wake up on Christmas morning to find a Kindle reader under the family tree.

Over the next few days and weeks, Kindle recipients will visit Amazon and download a few Kindle books for use with their newly acquired reader. Hence the annual sales spike in Kindle e-book sales every January.

The fact is that Kindle e-books and Kindle readers enjoy a very profitable symbiotic relationship. The huge selection of books gives customers the confidence to buy the reader hardware. Every new Kindle reader sale generates further sales of Kindle books. It's a virtuous circle which results in an upwards sales spiral for Amazon.

The recent introduction of the Kindle Fire tablet computer could result in Amazon finding itself in a similar position with downloadable movies. Don't forget, Amazon owns Netflix and, in the shape of the Kindle Fire, has once again paired hardware and software in much the same way that it matched up the Kindle reader and Kindle books.

That's what separates Amazon from many of its competitors right now - and it is one of the key factors in the almost total dominance of the Kindle reader. Amazon is providing both elements in the reading experience - it can provide access to both the medium and the message. If it can repeat the same trick with the Kindle Fire and movies (or software, or TV shows, or whatever grabs the public imagination), it could, quite conceivably, go on to dominate the tablet computer market just as it currently dominates the e-book reader market.

PDF to Kindle - A Great Productivity Tool

A few months back I received an Amazon Kindle as a gift. Being an avid reader, I was thrilled to get it. I logged on to Amazon.com right away and downloaded free (yep, free) literary classics and bought a couple of current bestsellers.

The next day, I went through all of the documentation and a couple of tutorials about the Kindle and was thrilled to learn that I could send files from my computer to the device.

When I registered the Kindle I was given an @kindle.com e-mail address. To send a file to the Kindle, all I need to do is send an e-mail to this address with my file as an attachment - super easy.

I send PDF files to my Kindle by the dozens. I often use PDF's in my article research and to be able to review these documents while away from my computer, without printing them, is great.

If I am going to be someplace where I'll be doing some waiting, I bring my Kindle and get some work done. Not only is this a great use of time, but it really is great to get away from the computer screen once in a while. I love being able to take these documents with me for a change of scenery.

If I find a website with something I want to read at a later time, I simply copy the text and paste it into a Notepad document. Just like with the PDF, I attach the file to an email and send it on over to the Kindle.

Text documents and for the most part, Microsoft Word documents, are very easy to read on the Kindle. In some cases however, the PDF files are a bit more difficult to make out. So what I do is turn the orientation of the Kindle to landscape and increase the contrast of the text. This makes the letters larger and the document much easier to read.

My Kindle is turning out to be my new best friend. I always have it with me. Whatever my mood or what work I need to get done, my entire collection of reading material is always right at hand. It's one of the best gifts I've ever received.

Fire: The Kindle Color Display Is a Great E-Reader

No smoke here - just an Amazon Kindle Fire: combined e-reader and tablet pc in one light-weight, very portable package. The Fire tablet is the latest addition to Amazon's Kindle collection of e-readers, only in full color, faster, and with a better display.

E-readers are a great convenience, as you can access multiple books - hundreds - digitally, without carrying around stacks of books - much easier on the back and shoulder! They're small and will easily fit in a purse.

About the size of a large paperback, and light enough to hold in one hand, e-readers allow you easy digital access to PDF files and Word documents as well as your favorite magazines, books, or newspapers without packing them around. The Fire tablet/e-reader weighs less than 1 pound! Contrast that with the laptop you've been lugging around the country while traveling, along with the latest dime store novel (well "best seller" novel anyway), and you can see why these digital entertainment devices are in high demand.

The Amazon Kindle Fire e-reader also has an improved viewing angle of 178 degrees, making it easier to share magazine articles, You Tube videos, or business data with more people, since it's capable of being seen from the side. This is an excellent feature of the new Fire tablet.

The Kindle Fire screen is lit so that you can read in bright sunlight or pitch dark - say when you are camping and have to finish the novel you are engrossed in. You can not only mark your spot, but even highlight passages - for research or business or school - and make notations.

E-readers can save you time and money. While you may still appreciate the feel of a good book in the hand, with an Amazon Kindle Fire, literally thousands of books are available for instant download, there's no more waiting for a book you ordered online to arrive, or having to drive to a bookstore.

There are huge bundles or packages of books and movies, literally thousands that you can access for free. For as low as $10, you can download as many books and movies as your Kindle Fire will hold - 6 gigabytes will hold a LOT of books, movies, apps, and documents! - And there are multiple bundled options to choose from, all easily and quickly downloadable though the built in WI-Fi.

Cloud Accelerated Browsing (Amazon's web browser is called "Amazon Silk") means faster web browsing, when you are not using Kindle Fire as an e-reader. Most web browsers pull a 100 pieces of information from 15 different servers on the web to render (show) the information you see on a webpage. The browser anticipates your next click by pre-downloading the most popular links on a page into the Fire's on board memory. When you click on a link, chances are good that the page is already there and it will load quickly.

The way the Amazon Web Services Cloud works, the "cloud" will stack and push pieces of gathered information, so it takes far less time to render the images that you see when you go to a website. That is how Silk is a faster web browser than most traditional browsers. It uses a customized Droid operating system, over 16,000 apps can be downloaded and utilized as well as PDF's, Word documents, and digital libraries.

And finally, one of the best parts of Amazon's Kindle Fire E-reader/tablet is that is a capacitive touch screen. This makes the product very intuitive and easy to use, even for a novice user (great gift idea anytime of the year - birthday, Christmas, graduation, etc.), so now that the smoke has cleared, you can get your Fire for less than half the cost of an iPad.

Kindle - 4 Great Reasons to Buy the Amazon Kindle

It has been a year since the launch of the Amazon Kindle and the sales of this electronic book reader show no signs of waning. In fact, since its launch, the Amazon Kindle has been firmly planted on the top of many bestsellers charts all over the internet. Arguably one of the hottest electronics that has come along since the I-pod, the hype on this revolutionary electronic book reader has been astronomical, and for good reason. Here are 4 great reasons for you to buy the Amazon Kindle.

Portability - Weighing barely 10 ounces, this electronic reader is lighter that most books in the market. At only 0.7 inches thick, the Amazon Kindle is as thick (if not lesser) that most magazines on the shelves. For all of us bookworms out there, we all know too well how much space three paperbacks will take in our bags. With the capacity to store up to 4000 book titles, this electronic book reader scores 5 stars in portability!

Your own personal bookstore - The Amazon Kindle allows you to have access to over 190,000 books, newspapers and magazines at the touch of your fingertips. It uses 3G technology where you can download any of your favorite books within just one minute. With the Amazon Kindle, you will also receive free access to Wikipedia and it also comes with a built in dictionary. Talk about having the whole bookstore in your purse!

Readability - The screen Amazon Kindle uses an electronic ink technology that highly resembles the experience of reading a real book. The background of the screen is white and it does not have any back-lighting so it never gets hot. One of the cool features of the Amazon Kindle is that you can enlarge the words on the screen to a size that suits your preference. This enable you to read your favorite books even when you have left your reading glasses at home.

Environmentally Friendly - Every year, 30 million trees have been cut down to make books in the U.S. alone. The innocent activity of reading is not as sustainable as we thought! The truth is most of the books that we have bought and read lay idle and untouched on our bookshelves for years, if not decades. With the Amazon Kindle, you can store up to 4000 books in this little device, which is the equivalent of four mature hardwood trees.

The Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On Light Is a Great Option for Kindle Reading in Dark Surroundings

Reading from the Kindle e-reader can be difficult in dark or dimly lit environments due to the fact that the Kindle does not have a built-in backlight. Instead, the Kindle uses sophisticated E Ink technology to emulate the experience of reading a book.

However, if you plan on reading from your Kindle in situations that require some accessory lighting, you are in luck. There are several lightweight reading lights that are designed to clip on to the Kindle and providing the necessary illumination. Of these options, the Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 stands out as a superior choice, and at an excellent price to boot.

The XtraFlex2 consists of a clip attached to an adjustable arm, at the end of which is the light source. It is simply clamped to the frame of the Kindle, or its case if desired, and the arm is positioned and oriented to illuminate the Kindle screen without getting in the way of reading. Importantly, the XtraFlex2 incorporates an optical-grade lens that spreads the light evenly across the Kindle screen without producing any glare. The light intensity can even be adjusted between 1 and 2 LEDs (which together have the lighting power of 6 normal LEDs) depending on the reading environment. These LEDs have a 100,000 hour lifetime and thus will likely never need to be replaced assuming normal use.

A nice feature of the XtraFlex2 is that its clip can open wide enough to clip onto objects other than the Kindle, such as the edge of a desk or a bedpost. The clip is also padded on both sides to prevent any damage to the Kindle.

It is important for an accessory reading light to be portable, and the XtraFlex2 does not disappoint in this regard. At only 4.8 ounces and with the flexible arm, it can be folded up tightly for easy transport. It is sold in both black and white versions, but it is worth noting that a range of other colors are available for the XtraFlex2 version that is not specifically designed for the Kindle, including silver, blue, green, pink, and purple. You will want to make sure this generic design will work with your Kindle (or other e-reader) before ordering.

As of this writing, the XtraFlex2 has over 800 total reviews on Amazon.com with an average rating of 4 stars, which is excellent. It retails for just $14.99 (Kindle version) or $16.99 (generic version) on Amazon, making it a relatively inexpensive way to enable Kindle reading in dimly lit surroundings. In fact, the XtraFlex2 can be clipped onto regular books as well, or even used as a desk or utility light when needed. It really is quite versatile.

The fact that the Kindle does not have a built-in backlight is not really such a concern when a high quality clip-on reading light like the XtraFlex2 by Mighty Bright is available at a reasonable price. With its small, sleek design, long-lasting, adjustable lighting power, and convenient clamping capability, the XtraFlex2 is simply the best accessory reading light for the Kindle on the market. Hopefully, this review will prompt you to take a closer look at the XtraFlex2 as a way to enable reading from your Kindle anytime and anywhere.

3 Great Reasons Why You Need A Kindle Cover

The Amazon Kindle is a truly excellent e-reader. It makes reading on an electronic device bearable and is a great boon for travelers like me who like to travel light, but are also kind of bookworms. Books are heavy, and one great solution is the Kindle. However, the Kindle is only 0.34 inches deep and since it's prone to getting bumped around, it's little wonder that getting a case is high on many people's priority lists. Here are three great reasons why getting a Kindle cover is important.

1) Protects it

This one is probably the best reason why people get cases for their fragile electronics and it's a good one at that. An effective case will prevent the Kindle from getting scratched or banged about. That screen is especially fragile and it's important that it is protected. Yes, sure, you could get one of those 'screen protectors' but they add glare and an extra thing to look through when you are reading your device. It's far better and simpler to just get a cover that covers the screen when you're not using it.

2) Less of a target for theft

A good cover looks a little like a journal and won't attract much attention. This is of course assuming that you don't get something that is blatantly obvious as a cover, such as a silicon case or other thing which shows off exactly what it is that you have. While a good rectangular case looks a little like a journal, it's not guaranteed it will prevent theft, but it certainly is less noticeable then an unprotected Kindle.

3) Feels better in your hands

Again assuming that you don't get something made of silicon, a case (especially one made from something organic such as leather) will make your Kindle feel less like a gadget and more like you're holding something beautifully organic. Of course, that's one of the main reasons that people don't like e-readers, part of the reading appeal is that books do feel quite nice in the hands. A good leather case will make your Kindle feel better to read, more pleasurable as your hands have something to do, rather then grip a plastic device. Most people won't factor this reason in when buying a cover, which is probably why the leather ones have such good reviews. Not only do they protect your Kindle, but they add so much to the reading experience, it's surprising!

Great Protection for Your Kindle

Today, the Internet is considered to be one of the best places to go shopping, as shopping online is not only convenient but it will also help you to save a lot of time and money. Furthermore, online shopping is a great opportunity for you to get your hands on some of the best gift deals.

It is very important that you do not become too excited and start purchasing everything that seems like a good deal. Ensure that you shop around for the gift that you need, and then compare prices from different online retailers; by doing this, you are guaranteed that you are going to get the best deals, particularly when you want to purchase eBook reader covers.

When you are shopping for covers for your eBook reader, it is important that you take the model and type of the eBook reader into consideration. The eBook readers that are available on the market today, greatly differ in size; meaning that the covers are also going to differ in size. For instance, the iPad 2 fine real leather cover is completely different from the leather Amazon Kindle 3 cover; therefore, if you own a Kindle 3, it will definitely not fit into the iPad 2 fine real leather Kindle 3 cover.

All Kindle covers and cases are not the same; as such, a leather Amazon Kindle 3 cover will not fit a second generation Kindle. It is just a matter of size, as the second generation Kindle is thinner and larger than the Kindle 3. You should never try to force a second generation Kindle cover on to your Kindle 3, as the cover will be too large to properly hold the device. Likewise, do not try to force a leather Amazon Kindle 3 cover on to your second generation Kindle, as the cover would be too small for the device. Keep in mind that forcing improper sized Kindle covers and cases on your device will only cause damage to your eBook reader.

Another thing that you need to take into consideration when shopping for a cover for your eBook reader is that you cannot compare two different brands. For example, you cannot do a comparison between iPad 2 real leather covers and the Amazon Kindle cover with light. This is primarily due to the fact that both covers have different features that are specific to the device that they were designed to cover.

If you want to buy Kindle cover, ensure that you carefully weigh your options, as choosing the right cover will not only reflect the personality of the person you are purchasing the gift for, but it will also help to protect the device.

Kindle EBook Reader - A Great Gift Idea

I think by now everybody has heard of, and knows that a Kindle is a completely portable eBook reader on which you can browse, read and download newspapers, magazines, blogs and especially eBooks. Since November 2007 when the first Kindle came on the market and sold out in five and a half hours, In my opinion the writing was on the wall that this was going to be the top eBook reader for many years to come.

As I said earlier the first Kindle was released in 2007 to be followed by Kindle 2 in Feb 2009 and Kindle 2 international released October 2009 and now we have Kindle 3-or, third generation, with free 3G and Wi-Fi,released August 2010. These new and improved eBook reading devices feature "E ink" Pearl Technology to greatly improve the screen and of course reading.

What is E-ink you may ask? E-ink stands for electronic ink, a technology designed to mimic the appearance of ordinary ink on paper as opposed to a back lit screen. Electronic ink and electronic paper screens reflect light just like ordinary paper. This technology allows for a more comfortable read than many backlit screens. This also means that these screens can be read in direct sunlight making the New Kindle devices extremely coveted.

As the producers of Kindle do not number their devices we can use the phrase "known as" and call the latest Kindle "Kindle 3" just for ease of recognition.So:-

Kindle 3 comes in two versions,

1. The kindle Wi-Fi, which as it suggests, connects to the internet via public and /or private Wi-Fi networks.

2. Kindle with 3G, connects with both Wi-Fi connection as above and 3G which is a free connection to the same wireless signals that cell-phones use; thus allowing for purchases and downloads from anywhere with cell-phone service.

The many improvements of this new eBook reader include an improved memory, expanded to 4 GB, extended battery life to say three weeks without charging, and "text to speak" option to read text aloud, should you tire of reading but wish to continue with your eBook or document. These progressive improvements display a genuine determination by the producers to keep improving Kindle, and there are many accessories and apps to other media devices. Many other portable devices have come on the market to challenge Kindle year on year but still it remains the number one eBook reader and sleak design with ease of use only strengthens its #1 spot in the market place.

Of course running alongside these special devices is the Kindle DX where the original was released in June 2009 the DX international in January 2010 and still improving the DX international 2 was released in July 2010. The Kindle DX physically is the largest of the Kindle family and features a larger screen and is more suitable for newspapers and textbooks and also includes E ink technology. Another great point with e ink and e paper is the fact that this technology allows for longer battery life and easy readability.

Kindle Cases and Covers - What's So Great About Them?

What's so great about Kindle cases and covers? There are actually quite a few reasons to invest in a cover or case for your Kindle device. The first reason is simple: personality. Kindles are rather ordinary looking devices. They are also fairly common devices. This means that if you want to set your Kindle apart, at first glance, from any other Kindle device in a crowded bar, coffee house, airport lounge, or doctor's office waiting area, a quick and easy way to do this is by purchasing a distinctive (and visually appealing of course) cover for your Kindle. With such a wide range of options on the market, the odds are good that you'll find one that matches your tastes and personality quite well.

The second reason to make the investment in Kindle cases and covers is actually more practical. That reasons would be protection. Keep in mind that not all covers and cases are created equally when it comes to providing protection for your Kindle device. Some are all about aesthetics. Oddly enough the covers that provide the most protective features are generally the covers that offer less visual appeal. That doesn't mean they aren't great products or that all protective covers and cases are ugly. It simply means that there is quite often a choice between looks and safety when it comes to covers or cases for Kindles.

Features are the third reason to consider investing in Kindle cases and covers. Different cases and/or covers offer different features that you may or may not find useful. Some of the common features you may want to keep in mind when checking out your options include: flip style covers so that you can use the cover like an easel to hold the Kindle device, lighted covers so you can read and take notes from your Kindle even in the dark, or clips to hold the Kindle in place.

The final reason to invest in Kindle cases and covers is to keep everything you need for your Kindle neatly together in one easy to reach space. It's just easier to deal with when everything is right at your fingertips. Whether you're looking for something that signals to the world how much personality you have, something that will protect your investment, a specific feature in a cover, or just an easy place to store your Kindle equipment, cases or covers provide the perfect solution.

Amazon Kindle: Great for Novels, Bad for Textbooks

1. Uncompetitive Textbook Pricing

Kindle textbooks are less expensive than print versions, but not by much. Many titles are only a few dollars cheaper on the Kindle. Considering ebooks cost the publisher virtually nothing to make and distribute, how is this fair to the consumer? A Kindle book should at least be cheaper than a used book. It's usually the other way around. Students have no incentive to buy Kindle textbooks when the college bookstore has a used print version for less. In comparison, Nook textbooks tend to be much more competitively priced.

2. Lack of Book Availability

Unless you're hell-bent on completing a general studies degree, you'll have trouble finding books for advanced classes on the Kindle. This might be fine for your first two years of college, but even then professors in lower-level classes still use hard-to-find books. The fact of the matter is the Kindle hasn't caught on with textbook publishers. Until this happens, the Kindle is useless to students

3. No Resale Value

Besides the expensive prices and lack of availability, you can't sell a Kindle book. College students can recoup 30-50% of their textbook costs through resale. This isn't an option on the Kindle. And once again, Kindle publishers do not price their works to compensate for this.

4. Physical Limitations

The Kindle can be a real asset because of its small size and high-quality E-ink screen, but the physical benefits end there. Unless you fork over $379 for the Kindle DX, the 6-inch screen on the standard model is too small for textbooks. Searchable text helps make up for this. However, the device only lets you read a small subsection of text at any time and constantly changing pages gets annoying very quickly. Visual learners will also miss the color diagrams and pictures that stimulate learning.

5. Cost of the Kindle

Kindle textbooks provide little up-front cost savings and have no resale value, but what about the cost of the Kindle itself? At $139 the introductory model isn't a bad deal. Given the shortcomings of textbooks on the Kindle, however, you'd be foolish to buy one as a dedicated textbook reader.
