Kindle Technology Helps the World Read

Worldreader.org can be compared to One Laptop Per Child (OLPC), an organization that created less expensive computers that was meant for children in developing countries. Worldreader.org has the same idea; however, they want to send eBook readers to these countries instead to encourage young people to develop a love for reading.

As of now, the organization has picked the ever popular Amazon Kindle as the eReader to send out. In fact, one of the co-founders of the organization is a former vice president of product and platform development for Amazon. Nice to know, but really this is a positive way to utilize electronic readers.

Here is Worldreader.org's working hypotheses:

eReaders will increase access to books due to lower distribution costs and immediate visibility of millions of books available online.This will result in a larger number and greater variety of books read, and increased excitement and exchange of ideas around these books.The result will be a higher value placed on reading within the classroom, family, and community.The results will be specific and measurable, and will, in the long term, increase literacy and opportunity for those involved.

Worldreader.org currently maintains partnerships with Amazon, Rassak Experience, and OrphanAid Africa. And speaking of Amazon, the Kindle was chosen because for one, it is so simple to use, and secondly, the Kindle store offers thousands of eBooks. This eBook reader also offers global wireless support. As the program evolves, the organization says that they may consider other gadgets depending on the needs of the developing communities.

Note however, that Worldreader.org doesn't give the eReaders to the countries; they assist with subsidizing the devices, so the devices are affordable for the local governments to purchase. They do this through fundraising. A trial run started on March 15th in the village of Ayenyah, Ghana.

Worldreader.org hopes that they see results of improved reading frequency and a higher demand for books. Additionally, the organization hopes that it will create a "sustainable business ecosystem" in these communities

The organization is also working diligently to problem-solve power problems, solar cell, and satellite internet access. In some remote areas around the world, these facilities aren't readily available. For example, in Ayenyah, Ghana, the trial school had unreliable power.

Once the students get their hands on the Kindle, they will find pre-loaded books. Worldreader.org lets the community pick the books based on their interests and needs.

As we get caught up in eBook prices wars thanks to the new agency model, competition stories between the Kindle and iPad, we sometimes really forget that eReader technology is awesome. Worldreader.org is using it to help the world change the way it reads.

The Kindle technology isn't only bring reading pleasure to new heights, it's also contributing to the education of less fortunate children. Find out why the Kindle is the ebook reader of choice of Worldreader.org and of million of book lovers worldwide!

The World Says Hello to the Amazon Kindle International

Yes, you read that right - there now is an Amazon Kindle International. The availability of the Kindle equipped International Wireless is one of the two important announcements that Amazon revealed very recently. Here's how Amazon describes the latest addition to its roster of wireless reading devices:

With this new Kindle, you can receive your books, newspapers, and magazines wirelessly while at home or abroad in over 100 countries. Whether you're in New York, Paris, São Paulo, Mumbai, Beijing, Tokyo, or Sydney, you can think of a book and be reading it in less than 60 seconds.

The company's other revelation is just as significant: after a steep price drop last July 2009, the 6-inch display Kindle now has a new, even lower price! As of this writing (October 2009), the Kindle for US residents is priced at $259, while the Kindle for International consumers is at $279. The current pricing is a definite bonus considering that the Kindle 2nd generation debuted at $359 just early this year.

Reading enthusiasts in other parts of the world who have been eagerly anticipating the availability of the Kindle would not need to wait any longer. Well at least, just until the Amazon Kindle International starts shipping in a few days' time. Apart from being able to do wireless download in over 100 countries outside of the US, this latest release of the Kindle, also known as the Kindle with U.S. and International Wireless, has all the features of the Kindle 2 that ebook reader users have always known and liked. The newest Amazon Kindle:

o Is just over 1/3 of an inch thin, and weighs 2 ounces. It's as thin as the next magazine and lighter than most paperbacks;

o Is equipped with enough internal memory to hold as many as 1,500 books;

o Uses e-ink technology that allows for glare-free reading even in bright sunlight - just like with real paper;

o Has a long battery life that lets the user read uninterrupted for days without having to recharge;

o Has built-in 3G wireless technology so that you don't need to find a WiFi hotspot to download a book in as short as 60 seconds;

o Through the Kindle Store, gives the owner access to over 350,000 books including the newest New York Times bestsellers, plus, newspapers, magazines, journals, and blogs.

The more affordable Kindle 2 is now available for immediate shipment, while the Amazon Kindle International can already be pre-ordered at a first-come, first-served basis for release on October 19, 2009.

The Amazon Kindle International version is available in over 100 countries!

How You Can Get Free WiFi Anywhere in the World With a Kindle 3G

When I first read about the Amazon Kindle 3G and its totally free WiFi, I'm like, how can you get 3G WiFi for free? After all, isn't that the same exact service that places like Apple charge nearly $100 a month for?

In fact, it is. Even if you can't make phone calls with the Amazon Kindle 3G, you can still link into a 3G network and browse the Internet - anywhere in the world!

Okay, so let's get the straight, I'm thinking. I can buy an Amazon Kindle 3G, go to China and still get free WiFi?

That's what Amazon says. I was totally blown away!

I dug a little deeper and found out how it works. Actually, Amazon is offering quite a nice deal for the service. Since they know you're going to buy ebooks for your Kindle, they're offering the 3G-compatible version of the Kindle for $189.

That's right. In a world where buyers used to flock to the Apple iPad for $600 to $800 plus $70 per month for data and web browsing, you now have a choice between spending all of your monthly salary on an Apple toy or getting a much less expensive Amazon Kindle for nearly a quarter of the price - or less.

Did I mention there are absolutely no monthly fees with this deal? That's what I like best about the Amazon Kindle. You don't have to worry about paying for cell phone coverage when you're not even using the device as a cell phone!

That's what got me about the Apple iPad. It's not like I'm going to hold the iPad near my ear and talk like it's a cell phone. So why do I need to pay outrageous cell phone services?

I don't, and that's why I like the Amazon Kindle 3G.

Plus, the new Kindle WiFi 3G device has a lot of updates that makes it way better than the second generation Kindle. For instance, you can now go two weeks to a whole month without ever charging the device. That means you can take it on vacation and probably not even bother bringing a charger for it.

And speaking of vacation, you can now enjoy your Amazon Kindle in the sunlight. They've made a change to the way they display the ebook on the screen. Instead of making the display look like a computer screen (and giving you a pretty good reflection of yourself at the same time) they've switched out the technology.

Now, the display looks just like you're holding a book in your hand. The display is as white and matte flat as a piece of paper. No longer do you have to strain or change positions because of sunlight or light bulbs. You won't get any glare at all!

There are a few more reasons you should buy the Amazon Kindle 3G instead of the Apple iPad which I didn't have room to write about here. But you can find out what those reasons are when you check out http://www.squidoo.com/3g-kindle. I promise you that the Kindle will knock your socks off in every imaginable way - without digging too far into your wallet.

Revolution in the World of Reading - Amazon's Kindle

We live in a digital world. We are always surrounded by some gadgets. But there was a part of our lives which was untouched by the revolution in technology - reading books. We all love reading books. Sitting in a quiet room to read a novel is something what we all do during long holidays. But these experiences are going to be extinct soon. We now have electronic e-book readers which are completely changing the world of reading. One of the most famous among them is Kindle from Amazon.

Amazon is considered as the largest online retailer in the world and in 2007 it released its first electronic reader Kindle. Kindle is both a software and hardware platform to read e-books. The digital e-reader supplied by Amazon is the hardware platform which uses Kindle software platform to display e-books. And the same software Kindle platform can be used on other hardware platform like iPhone. After the original Kindle, Amazon also released improved versions of its electronic e-book reader - Kindle 2, Kindle DX.

How does Kindle stand out as an electronic e-book reader?

First of all, it is easily portable. You no more need a bag full of books to carry. Just put the Kindle in your pocket and you are done. Weight of this e-reader is less than one book. Kindle does not need a computer to function. You can connect to the wireless Internet free of cost and download any e-book you like from the huge collection offered by Amazon. There are more than 3 millions e-books available to choose from. There are other features which have made kindle the bestseller in the market. You can access your e-mail account on the Kindle itself while you are reading an e-book. You do not need to log in to a computer to do that. You can also use twitter on your Kindle. In simple words, a Kindle gives a real reading experience along with other technological advantages and all of us need technology to make our lives simpler and efficient.

The initial release of original Kindle had some technical issues but in later version all of them were rectified. Later in October 2009, Amazon released its international version of Kindle 2 and the product was shipped to more than 100 countries. The release of international Kindle DX has already been announced and it will be available in market during January 2010. With the release of Kindle 2 and Kindle DX, Amazon has become the most trustworthy seller in e-readers' market.
