The world of technology is ever changing. New developments, especially in the computer world changes our lives on on a daily basis. Some of these inventions are assets in the work force, while others heightens our world of entertainment.
One of the recent creations is the Kindle. The advantages of the Kindle falls into both categories. You can use this device to load your favorite novels, newspapers and magazines for your leisure time and you can also use it to hold your work files.
Windows and Macintosh users through a USB connection can download and transfer Kindle content, business and personal documents, MP3 and Audible files. The Kindle will show up as a removable mass-storage device when it is connected to your computer.
Required system requirements are as follows:
o Windows-based: Windows 2000 or later
o Macintosh: Mac OS X 10.2 or later
o USB port: You can use an available port or an attached USB hub with an available port
There is a built-in PDF Reader in the Kindle. You will have the convenience of being able to unload all the loose papers in your briefcase, such as manuals, correspondence documents, financial statements, etc and load them all on your Kindle. This would allow you to take all your papers with you and read them on the go. It is like having a portable office.
The "Text-to-Speech function will read (in English) your newspapers, books, etc. You can select if you want a male or female voice and the speed the material is being read. You have the option to go back and forth between reading or being read to. This is hands-free as when the Kindle is reading to you it automatically turns the pages. You can use the Kindle to read your books to you if you are in your car. The Kindle has lots of bells and whistles.
If you need to have your coffee and read the paper before you start your day Kindle has a feature that allows you to have your newspapers automatically delivered wirelessly to your Kindle before they reach the news stands. When you are traveling you will not have to rush out for the paper in the morning. You can make your coffee in your room, or go to the restaurant for your breakfast and your paper will be waiting for you on your Kindle. With Kindle's 5-way controller you can to flip between articles. If you there is an article you want to save and reread later you have the option to clip and save the entire article.
Originally, I did not think I would want a Kindle as I like to read with a highlighter and usually make in the material I am reading. Kindle's QWERTY keyboard allows you to add annotations to the text. Being digital you can edit, delete and export your notes. If you ever lose your place when you are reading, you will not have to worry about that again. The Kindle remembers where you left off and opens to the last page you read. This conceivably could save you a lot of time.
If you use audiobooks you can go to audible.com and download from an inventory of 50,000 titles. A three month trial costs $7.95 a month. If you continue with this service the cost increases to $14.95 per month. When I am spending long intervals working on the computer I enjoy listening to audiobooks. You will never be at a loss for reading material.
You will have the ease of downloading your reading material right from your computer. You will not have to spend time in lines at the bookstores, or at the library. I was just saying the other day to someone in the library, by the time you get done looking through all the books, CDs and tapes you have a stiff neck.
Kindle has a high-resolution screen that boasts 16 shades of gray giving you sharp images and photos.
The Kindle DX with a 9.7" diagonal E-link is 10.4" x 7.2" x 0.38" and will hold 3,500 books. The smaller version, the regular Kindle has a 6" diagonal E-link and is 8" x 5.3" x 0.36" and holds 1,500 books. This type of storage can certainly lighten your load when traveling.
After digesting this information, your biggest decision will be to decide whether you want to purchase the Kindle DX or the original Kindle.
