Will Amazon Give Away Free Kindles To Gain Customer Loyalty?

The idea of Amazon.com, Inc. handing out free Kindles may seem farfetched. Even though eReader sales have skyrocketed over the last year (6.6 million eReader devices were sold in 2010), Amazon.com has dropped the price of Kindles from $399 to $140 over the last three years to remain competitive and to increase its market share. Competitors, like Apple's iPad, Barnes & Noble's Nook, and Google Books for the Android, are fighting for Kindle's market share. Is the next step to give away free Kindles?

A few business insiders speculate that increasing consumer loyalty to spur repeat purchases of ebooks may be worth giving Kindles away for free.

Analysts predict that Amazon will still have a dominant portion of the eBook market share in 2011 (about 68% market share), but Apple's iPad is becoming a growing threat to Amazon's Kindle. Apple's iPad has grown from a 16% ebook market share in August 2010 to a 32% market share as of November 2010. Additionally, earlier this year, Barnes & Noble claimed it now controls 25% of the U.S. e-book market, thanks to its Nook color eReader device.

Amazon.com has recently finalized negotiations to put their WiFi Kindles in electronic stores around the country. AT&T is one of the first companies that has jumped at this opportunity and will offer the Kindle WiFi beginning on March 6. These newest partnerships will help sell more Kindles for another financial quarter or two, but we can only speculate what will happen in later quarters.

Many ebooks are priced nearly identically between Amazon's Kindle and Barnes & Noble's Nook, which means price points on e-books do not necessarily influence a consumer's decision to buy a Kindle over a Nook. The decision to buy a Kindle is largely influenced by Amazon's stellar reputation of offering the best customer service experience. Kindle users can download an entire ebook in seconds; they can tap into thousands of books in one place; and they have access to an online registry to save books in case of loss or theft. Additionally, Amazon.com has made reviewing, browsing and buying ebooks a viral online and offline social activity among Kindle users.

The idea of Amazon giving away Kindles for free could be justified by the fact that new loyal Kindle owners would make repeat purchases of ebooks and digital content exclusively through Amazon.com for an indefinite amount of time. But who really knows for certain?

Will Kindles be free by the next holiday season? The reality, right now, is most likely not. It is not that hard to imagine that the price of Kindles may break $100, if not closer to $50, within a year.

The Kindle's Future: Death or Rebirth?

According to the company, more customers bought the Amazon Kindle on Christmas day than actual books. Given that not many actually purchase anything on Christmas Day except from bargains and sales, this might not mean a great deal, but we get the drift: in fact, Amazon stated the Kindle to be 'the most gifted product' in the history of the company.

Now that means something, so is there any need for changes to the Kindle if it is doing so well? The answer is definitely yes, because anything standing still gets overtaken. In fact, over the next year or so there will be massive changes made to the e-reader market with a rash of competitors having developed new products that will be shipped from November onwards. Some of these will include innovations and features that will make the Kindle appear Victorian by comparison, so what is in store for the Amazon Kindle over the coming year?

The answer to that is that nobody knows, so we can only surmise what is in Amazon's mind. The iPad has given rise to a serious competitor, and the reaction of other manufacturing companies such as Dell, HP, Samsung and Toshiba to name just four is already being seen. Each of these is coming out with new machines of 7" and more, with 1024 x 600 screen resolution and e-reader capability. The iPad itself has its own iBooks, plus of course the Kindle application, although most for the moment are going with Apples own e-reader app.

Here are some of the things we believe that Amazon might introduce to the Kindle, either as tweaks or as a brand new machine with more functionality than just as an e-reader. Each of these is based upon existing competition and what we already know is in the pipeline from that competition for 2011.

Remove the Keyboard
The physical keyboard below the screen on the Kindle is redolent of the archaic. OK, many people might like it, but that is perhaps only a sense of sentimentality, as some were sentimental about the ring dial cradle telephones. Many kept them, but few are now sold. Amazon must step up to the base ready to face the competition with a modern look.

Removing the physical keyboard would certainly give a more modern and attractive look to the Kindle, and help sell it to the younger generation. There is a question as to the need for any more than a touch keyboard for an e-reader.

Introduce a Full Resolution Color Screen
In the current era of magazines and newspapers being made available to e-readers, the days of black and white e-Ink are over. Color is essential, and if Amazon wants to continue their dominance with the Kindle then they will have to modern up. E-Ink might keep the newspaper guys happy, but it won't keep the customers happy and that's what matters, so color is a must if the Kindle wants to be anything but a fringe limited functionality eBook reader in the future.

Reconsider DRM
DRM (Digital Rights Management) is good in a way, in that it helps protect theft or piracy of eBooks, but some other form of protection should be devised whereby titles can be swapped between devices. This is particularly so in view of the bookclouds that are appearing, whereby titles can be read on any device such as an iPhone or Blackberry in addition to a dedicated e-reader. Although Amazon allows publishers to decide whether to apply copy protection or not, it would be a forward step to do away with DRM altogether, or at least to use a less restrictive form. Physical books get by without it.

Convert the Kindle to a Tablet Computer
Some people have suggested that Amazon convert the Kindle to a full-blown tablet computer and so compete with Apple head on. It is doubtful whether a company such as Amazon would be willing to do that since, while a dedicated e-reader fits in perfectly with their core business, a tablet computer would not.

If anything it is Apple that encroached on Amazon territory, not the other way about, and there appears to be no reason for a business involved in the publishing industry to become involved in computing. All Amazon should do meantime is to focus on improving the Kindle to offer color, a more attractive appearance and to render it easier for users that have purchased eBooks elsewhere to read them on the Kindle, and that might be enough to beat off the competition who are encroaching on their core business.

To do nothing at all would be commercial suicide because until now many have purchased either on looks or on functionality. Now that Apple and some others with the better looks are now producing the goods in respect of functionality, the Kindle must become reborn or it may die shortly after its proudest hour.

Portable Ebook Reader - Amazon's Wireless Kindles

I have friends that are daily readers, for the most part these friends have a totally different circle of friends they associate with than what I have. When we are together we just don't have much enjoyable to talk about.

A day in a busy life!

After a long day at work I shut off the lights, turn on the alarm, lock the door and make my way to the car. Its dark and besides one other car mine is the only one in the lot. I get in and start it up, wait for it to warm a little before I go. The parking lot at work is empty but once I get out on the road I see everyone else is definitely not at home, I'm barely out of the lot when I'm waiting for the second flow of cars to get through the light this time so I can actually start making my way home.

Traffic is bad tonight, probably because winter is here and the roads were sanded by the city because of the threat of incoming snow. You get that sand and very small rock smacked up against your windshield if you don't keep a good distance from the car in front of you.

My wife calls as I'm trying to slow down to get out of the spray of rocks hitting my car and not being rear ended at the same time. "Can you pick up some milk on the way home?" "Oh and the kids would like some of those toaster things you bought last time." Yes Dear!

Home is just a few streets away now, all I can think of is having dinner, taking care of that leaking sink my wife has been calling me about all day, and going to bed early. "Hi I'm home", Shelly says the toilet in the main bath is plugged up, can you take a look at it? My wife is at the dinning room table with Sam, looks like they are working on his math homework again.

Toilet works again and I'm cleaned up, my shoes are off and I'm thinking about my noisy stomach that's telling me its time for dinner. "Hey we are going to be awhile here with this math homework, can you make dinner?"

Yes Dear! An hour later we are all sitting down to dinner, kids are complaining about their homework, although I'm not really there, I just want to go to bed. "You need to take Shelly to the Mall to get a new coat, her coat was taken at school today and she needs a new one for tomorrow, its going to be very cold.

Time spent with the kids one on one, like when we are going to the store or something like that isn't really that bad. I enjoy the time talking with the kids like that but "You need to be more careful about losing things, we are not made of money you know!" Got to stay in parental mode until I can crawl into my warm bed for the night.

Its a little after 10pm now and the kids are both in bed, I'm ready for bed as well. "I lost my hair brush between the seats in the car today and I'm going to need it for the kids first thing in the morning, can you get it out tonight before you go to bed?"

Yes Dear! Its now 11pm and nothing is going to stop me now. "I'm going to bed". I'll be in when I finish fixing Shelly's pants.

I get ready for bed and slide in between the covers and reach up to set the alarm, there's the Amazon Kindle that I borrowed from my wife's brother the school teacher, I bought a book for it last night and forgot about it. Last night wasn't much different than tonight except the kids were in bed earlier and I hit the Kindle ebook reader a little earlier.

Night light is on, I"m comfy in bed reading my new ebook on the Kindle ebook reader I borrowed from my brother in law. Having a ebook reader makes me feel like I'm hi-tech or part of the "in" crowd. I do kinda feel that way but for years since I got out of school I've always wanted to be a more active reader. Reading is good for you! Its keeps your mind active which in turn keeps you more active.

I had to buy my own Kindle because My wife's brother wanted his back, but My Amazon Kindle 2 ebook reader is for sure the best thing I've bought in years. I love reading with it! Reading has become an almost daily thing for me, if I want a new book I don't even have to get out of bed. I browse through Amazon's book store with my Kindle, wirelessly, pick my new book and in less than 60 seconds its on my screen!

My wife likes to steal my Kindle and read her stuff, and once in a while I'll let the kids use it. I love my Kindle ebook reader and probably will end up buying them for the rest of the family. No cords to hook up to anything and never a bill for the wireless service that comes with the Kindle. Internet browsing, check email, whatever you want to do online with your Kindle is free. Free Internet with Kindle!!

This article got a little off track, the point I was trying to make is, even with a busy life style like I have the Portable ebook reader has changed my life for the better.

I love to read now, and getting a new book is cheap and only takes a minute. I can get a new book while laying in bed. I feel sharper and more intelligent, reading I believe has got my brain juices flowing again and I feel good about it.

The Amazon Kindle DX - The Newest Generation of Kindles

Amazon is releasing its newest Kindle, the Kindle DX. Sporting a large display area (9.7 inches), Amazon is hoping that its newest e-book reader will appeal to those readers who would prefer to enjoy periodicals on their Kindle. The larger display makes it appear to be more of a tablet PC type unit and sports the Kindle's fabulous electronic ink display, making this the most "readable" ebook reader on the market.

Is Amazon trying to broaden its market with its newest Kindle release? A recent informal survey of current Kindle owners revealed a startling surprise - most Kindle users are over 50! Keep in mind that this survey was strictly informal. Results were derived from responses to an age question posted on the Amazon discussion forums.

To appeal to a younger crowd, Amazon needs a hook. And what do most college students read on a regular basis? Textbooks. If Amazon can get students to use the Kindle DX to read their textbooks, those students will become loyal Kindle users - thus broadening Amazon's market share.

Amazon is working with a number of universities to do its own little "beta" test using the Kindle DX to "carry" college textbooks. Some freshman students at Case Western Reserve will test the newest Kindle with pre-installed textbooks on them . Combining the availability of college texts with the ebook reader's electronic ink technology makes this combo a homerun for Amazon . And one can only imagine how much lighter that college backpack will be when all it has to carry is a Kindle DX and a few notebooks!

Amazon is hoping that the new enlarged display will also appeal to newspaper readers. Amazon is throwing out a life line to the periodical print industry, pairing up with many major newspapers to provide Kindle electronic delivery of the morning paper. Many newspaper fans rave about having the Kindle edition of the newspaper being automatically downloaded each morning and ready for consumption with their morning coffee. The larger display should only make that aspect of the Kindle DX even more appealing to the print news loving crowd.

Kindle's Variable Font Feature - Threat to Large Print Book Industry?

Kindle's variable font size feature is probably a threat to large print industry and the vision going stronger with its new slated release of Kindle 2. Well! if you passed off books with extra large fonts as kindergarten stuff, you just got it all wrong. We are conditioned to think of great books and serious reads to be in a certain format and font. The very image of a best seller in your mind will look like a conventional 200 or 300+ paged book with fonts between 10 to 12 pt in size. Oh I know it is a juicy feeling to even look at the thickness of a novel and the small fonts weaving in stories beautifully. Thicker book and smaller fonts meant more pages of content, more drama, more information, more knowledge and more value for money. But at the back of your mind maybe you did care, you did hope, if you could read all that data with less strain in the eye. But can you ever imagine carrying a 10,000 page best seller with 1 inch high letters printed on them? Funny! Isn't it?

But believe it or not, Amazon reader has just done that. As per the Amazon's wireless reading device review, it is a proven fact a surprisingly large number of kindle owners, love being able to change the font size on their Kindle. Yes now you can actually compete with your kid's kindergarten books with the font sizes, without feeling funny at all. After all you will have hi-tech technology doing it for you. And you still have more options than ever. Though Kindles are a boon for people with the low vision, this font zoom feature is highly beneficial for anyone and everyone.

Kindle vision for a better future.

Visual aids like lenses, spectacles, laser treatments and similar products form a huge industry in itself which is already helping majority of people affected by low vision. In a November 2004 article called "magnitude and causes of visual impairment", the WHO estimated that in 2002 there were 161 million (about 2.6% of the world population) visually impaired people in the world, of whom 124 million (about 2%) had low vision and 37 million (about 0.6%) were blind. And the figures are escalating furthermore with the rising population.

Not hard to imagine why there has been such an increase in large print book publications in last 39 years, which were first created as literally double-sized and double font sized books in 1969. Interestingly, one company successfully continuing the tradition is called "Read How you Want" which prints large print books in custom fonts till date. Amazon's has a large book section which is already well organized with helpful categories, bargains and bestseller options for sale.

Kindle's dynamic font size feature has now given a fresh new paradigm to the existing large font print product niches, which so far meant only for the low vision or the partially sighted. Now all reads in kindle format allows users with low vision to read bigger fonts than printed books available. This along with other factors like lower prices for books, 24/7 connectivity, availability, portability, light weight feature, instant downloads, self publishing option, content emailing, what you get is a win-win situation.

Partially sighted or not, it doesn't matter because what counts in the end is, that it eases away eye strain making reading as comfortable as possible. And it goes without saying how important it is for us to take care of our eye sight, especially when there isn't a day when we can avoid reading something or getting to the computer screen for anything we do. Kindle just bridged another gap in distribution of information. Even the conventional way of driving down to a store for your favorite book is over. Buying a kindle, Amazon's gift to mankind is like giving our visions some reprise.

They say old flings die hard. And if you have romanced with original kindle 1.0 then version 2.0 will surely re-kindle your love interest for technological reading in a far more seductive way.

Kindle Kindles Up a Fire!

Buy the hot, new Kindle DX for sale. Or get burnt by the wrath of jealousy. Yes everybody is buying them. For all of 2009, the analysts have tallied a sales figure of 2 million to about 5 million units. The kindle wireless ereaders have proved to be the hottest products of Amazon's catalogue. With already a successful 2G version, the new electronic reader is on a blazing trail, killing every competition in the market. The DX has a much larger screen than the original release, twice the storage capacity, and now offers the native PDF readability. You don't need to store your important PDFs on the computer and convert them to view on a kindle. PDF support has been one of the major USP this time. The bigger, rotating screen switchable from portrait to landscape view, makes this a no-brainer for the any reader too.

Kindle On Fire!

The wireless reading device has proved to be the most wished for, most often gifted and the most purchased gadget from Amazon's range of products. The popularity quotient is so high, that people buy from one to a couple as gifts for their friends and families. DX platform as in K2, functions on Whispernet technology and enables users to wirelessly download books, magazines, newspapers, personal documents, access blogs, google maps, weather reports and more. Now you have the luxury of viewing it on a high-resolution 9.7 inch E-Ink display as compared the 6 inch screen on its previous version. The new model is so versatile for professionals that business establishments and organizations are also buying Kindles in large quantities for their customers or employees. The outstanding battery life, e-ink display, gives the most authentic book-like feel, with its pioneering technology to emulate "a high contrast look of the real paper".

What I love most about it, is its ability to connect to the Amazon bookstore, the web, Wikipedia through WhisperNet, its EV-DO-based technology; and without incurring any additional charges. Truly, it's never been easier than this to read a book and carry a library full of them with you. Battery life is still one of the best we have in both the versions. You can almost forget about it for around 4 days or so. It's highly lightweight and portable.

Fiery features of Kindle DX specifications

Large 9.7" Display with 16 shades of gray
1/3 inches in thickness.
4gb storage capacity, capable of storing 3,500 books, documents & periodicals.
Built-In PDF reader. (No need to send files to Amazon for conversion and pay for it)
Amazon content of 390,000 books, newspapers, magazines, blogs, best sellers, New York Times, latest releases etc.
Books downloadable in 60 seconds flat.
Free Whispernet facility makes Wifi hunting is a thing of the past.
New enhanced browser, which can display graphics, images and text like real print.
New auto-rotating screen to switch from portrait to landscape view..
Highly ergonomic design

Where to buy a Kindle reader from?

The latest edition sells for $489 and is available for immediate shipment from Amazon itself. The price is definitely a considerable jump from its predecessor, which is currently priced at $259. But when you compare the specifications with the existing K2, you will know it packs a punch for the extra cost. The devices are well in stock on Amazon as compared to other e-readers. The free shipping and super saver deals, 1 year warranty, thousands of customer reviews will give you a safe and easy purchase experience.

Compare Kindles

Digital Book Readers are all the hype right now. There is tons of jargon associated with the eReaders, making it hard for people to compare the different models. You may be asking "Which Kindle Should I Get?" Let me clear up your confusion by comparing the Kindles right here.

Kindle Wifi

The Kindle Wifi is the entry level Kindle E Reader. It has a 6 inch reading area and can store about 3,500 books. This version of the Kindle is really light weight and great for travel. If you only read occasionally, or only around the house, this model is perfect for you.

Cons

The Kindle Wifi can store your entire library, but it requires Wifi to access your online collection. You will also need Wifi to shop or download more books.

Kindle Wfi + 3g

3g gives you the ability to access your books from anywhere. Not only can you access your entire library, you can download new books from the Amazon Marketplace. You get 3g pretty much anywhere so don't plan on being bored anytime soon.

Cons

There are no real complaints for this model. 3g uses battery life a little bit faster, but when you have two to three weeks of battery life who cares?

Kindle DX

The Kindle DX is the top shelf model of Amazon's Kindle. The DX has a much bigger screen. The DX also comes equipped with Wifi and 3g.

Cons

The battery life is not as good as the other two models because of the larger screen, but the larger screen is worth it. The battery life is still almost two weeks long. The Kindle DX is a little bigger and heavier so it is great for around the house or on vacation, by the beach or pool. If you are going to be using your Kindle on a day to day basis you may want to get the smaller size. If you carry a suitcase or a bag big enough for a 9.7 inch Kindle, I would take the upgrade.

Kindle Versus Nook: the Kindle Wifi + 3G only has a few advantages over the Kindle Wifi but have you thought about the Kindle Versus Nook discussion?

Amazon Kindle How-To - Help! My Kindle's Frozen!

You just got your new Kindle and have loaded it up with e-books and audio books. After playing a while you decide to make a few phone calls. When you come back, you find your Kindle screen is frozen! Unresponsive. The Next Page and Previous Page buttons don't work. The (Aaa) doesn't "wake it up." Nothing seems to bring your Kindle back to life. That old-school screen saver just stares back at you.

First of all - don't panic. As with any other electronic device, the Kindle occasionally has a few hiccups. There are a few things you can do to get your Kindle running again good as new.

1. Plug-in your charger. Sometimes the Kindle battery can get run-down enough so that it will "freeze." Plugging the charger in and giving your Kindle battery some much needed power often will un-freeze the screen.

2. If that doesn't work, try what is called a "soft reset." To do a soft reset on your Kindle press the , , and keys simultaneously. Your Kindle screen should go blank or dark and then slowly come back to life.

3. When doing a soft reset doesn't work, you will occasionally have to do a "hard reset." To do a hard reset -

- Make sure your Kindle's battery is charged (about an hour of charging time should do it)

- Remove the charger cord from your Kindle

- Open the back of your Kindle

- Locate the small hole under the word "Reset"

- Open a small paper clip

- Insert the paper clip end into the hole and press GENTLY for about 10 seconds

- Your Kindle screen should go blank (or black) and then the Kindle should re-start

4. When a hard reset doesn't work you can try to remove and replace the battery in your Kindle. This is a bit more complex but not too difficult -

- Turn your Kindle off

- Remove the charger cord from your Kindle

- Open the back of your Kindle

- Locate the gray battery, and the finger-notch for removing the battery

- Gently press the battery toward the back of its compartment, then lift the battery out

- Locate the connector that attaches the battery to the Kindle

- GENTLY pull the battery connector out of the Kindle

- With the battery out of the Kindle turn it on for about 5 seconds

- Replace the battery and close the back cover of your Kindle

- Turn the Kindle on

If your Kindle is still "frozen" after completing the steps above, your next move is to contact the Amazon Kindle support team. Go to your Amazon account page - select "Manage my Kindle" and contact the support team from there. You can find the link at the top of the "Manage my Kindle" page on the far right side.

There is a good chance, however, that the steps above will get your Kindle un-frozen and by now you'll be back enjoying your favorite e-book or audio book.

Congratulations! You've now learned how to do a soft and hard reset on your Amazon Kindle wireless reading device.

Ebook Viewers - Amazon Kindles Are Here to Stay

What exactly is a ebook viewer? Its a electronic book or actually a electronic library. Ebook viewers or some people call them ebook readers allow you to read and keep books in a very small little device.

Different models are available, the Amazon Kindles come in 3 different versions.

Kindle-first generation
Kindle 2
Kindle DX
The Kindles were released in that order, all have quickly become the ebook viewer of choice for people that like to read. Ebook viewers allow you to download almost any book and any books you may want in the future in a small compact device that reads like a book. Your Kindle will keep all of your books safe. Not one book at a time but an entire library of books can all be kept safe inside your Kindle.

Kindle also lets you subscribe to News Papers and Magazines, but instead of going outside to get your paper you just pick up your Kindle, your paper is delivered bright and early in the morning.

The first 2 versions of the Kindle weighed about 10 ounces and the latest version the Kindle DX is much larger, it weighs in at 19 ounces. Kindles are very thin and portable with a thickness of about 1/3", like the thinkness of a pencil. Very portable and easy to take with you anywhere you go.

Probably the most notable difference between Amazon's Kindles and other ebook viewers is the fact that Kindles are wireless! These ebook viewers are great because they can hold a ton of books allowing you to take your entire collection with you everywhere you go. Vacations, plane rides or even take advantage of your Kindle while waiting at the doctors office. If your Doctor makes you wait, just read some of that book your working on.

Now back to the wireless, Having a ebook viewer is great because you can take up to 3500 books or newspapers or magazines anywhere you go, but you have to get the books or whatever inside of your ebook viewer. The Amazon Kindles do that wireless and they are the only ones that do.

If you are on Vacation or anywhere a cell phone would have coverage, a new book to read is only a couple of clicks from being on your screen and ready to read.

If you have a Kindle and want to get a new book to read all you have to do is click on the menu button, scroll down to book store. At the book store you can search for any of over 375,000 books that Amazon offers and easily search by author or title or browse different categories until you find one you want.

Now if you want you can click on read review, get a feel of what that book is going to be like and decide if that's really the one you want or not. If you decide that you want that book, all you do is click on buy now, in less than 60 seconds its on your screen and ready to be enjoyed. No cables or computer needed!

Did you know that Amazon is the worlds largest book store? Amazon has a goal to have every book ever produced available at their online book store and they are adding more titles to their inventory every day.

Amazon had a vision while designing their Kindle ebook viewers. Not only did they want to make the best unit by far, but even more important than that was for you to forget you are reading on a Kindle. What I mean by that is they want you to get lost in your book the same way you would if you were reading a paper printed book.

When you are reading a good book it doesn't take too long before you are into the story and not thinking about the book. Amazon has done a great job as I find that a couple of minutes into my book my mind is in book land, I quickly become unaware of the fact that I'm reading on a Kindle.

Kindles use a new technology for their display called "electronic Ink" or Eink for short. Unlike computers or cell phones, the display doesn't make your eyes tired and eye strain is non-existent. It just doesn't happen!

The Eink display looks just like a printed book and can be read in bright sunlight with no problem. Just like reading a paper book in low lighting though, you will need a light to read as there are no lights on a Kindle.

I think Amazon has done a great job designing their ebook viewers and I think you will too!

As you can probably tell I absolutely Love my Amazon Kindle! When you get something new that you really like its hard not to tell everyone about it. The Kindle is that new thing for me and I'm telling everyone about it.

If you want to learn more about the Great little Ebook Viewers from Amazon than please click on this link [Http://www.ebookviewer.net] You can learn about the different models as well as check out accessories and the huge selection of books available. You can also see what hundreds of other Kindle users have to say about their Kindle.

Kindle, Oprah and Amazon Combination Beat Recession - 40,000 Kindles Sold

Kindle, Oprah and Amazon proved to be a great combination to beat the global meltdown and recession. It proved to be a great commercial success against all odds with Amazon.com selling out 400,000 Kindles in total by 2008 according to an estimate by James McQuivey, an analyst at Forrester Research Inc. in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Oprah endorsement in October 2008 catapulted the sales revenue to new high in the last 3 months. Jeffrey Lindsay, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein, speculated the figure much higher, at about 450,000. In 2009, it may cross more than half a million mark according to Colin Sebastian, an analyst at Lazard Capital Markets.

Yes the official price of Kindle being $ 359, may not be called cheap, even if it means a one-time investment. But the sheer ability to download a book electronically from wherever you are has generated immense amount of mouth publicity and interest. Since its introduction in November 2007, the paperback-sized device that allows one to download books, magazines and newspapers, displaying them on a high-resolution contrast screen that resembles a real paper print, proved to be a successful niche product.

The popularity quotient is still on the rise and the Seattle-based company got sold out of stock ahead of this holiday season. Oprah Winfrey just re-kindled the demand multifold, with a timely pre-season kindle testimonial on her television show in October. And to add to it all was the $ 50 discount (drop the MRP to $ 309), that shoppers could avail on entering the coupon code "oprahwinfrey". Hundreds of bloggers and deal sites cashed in on the Oprah-Kindle $50 off coupon pushing the sales even more. Many critics who originally thought the Kindle wouldn't be received well because of its high price have been proved wrong especially after Oprah endorsement. Yes the timing was just apt for Amazon, which is now gearing up for a second breakthrough with kindle 2 upgrade. Indisputably Amazon stands out as the No. 1 online bookseller since 1994. Now with its scheduled release of a brand new Kindle 2.0 version in Q1 2009, it couldn't have been in a better off market position.

The utility of the product is pre-sold.
Everyone is convinced of its ingenuity. The Kindle buzz is in full swing.
The stocks have depleted creating a huge surge in demand.
Retailers are loaded with inquiries.
Customers are willing to put their names on the waiting list till the release (3 months as of today)

Kindle stock earned US $1,500 while other stocks were crashing

Yes, kindle sold as high as US $1,500 this holiday season unofficially due to the abrupt shortage even while real stock markets were crashing. With the Kindle in short supply and asking prices soaring up online, there have been instances where people sold off kindle electronic book readers, some of which were even received as gifts for thrice the retail price of $ 359. The proof could be found from purchases on Craigslist where buyers shelled out anything over US $500 and more. People who wanted to give it as a holiday gifts paid a premium to get it in time. The situation however worked for Amazon resulting in a steep upward spike in their kindle sales. People reasoned by saying, if the existing product could be sold at a profit while a better and new version could be bought within a span of two to three months, then it was worth selling them off now.

And eventually they will break even to have their own kindle for free. Though everything stands in favor of Amazon today, only thing it can't afford to do now is delay the product release long enough. The success has indeed got a few other multinationals and hi-end product manufacturers like Nintendo and eslick ebook reader building up competition. Amazon on its side is also expanding the amount of content read for its new Kindle, to offer more than 200,000 books, blogs and publications.

According to a recent survey, more than 50% American women are responsible for all online purchases. Imagine the impact of Oprah Winfrey to recommending a product to the womankind today? Or the man-kind for that matter. Come to think of it, Oprah has established herself as no-nonsense woman who speaks for people like you and me. And if she mentions kindle to be her "most favorite gadget" on her show, then the product must be worth every penny. I believe she can't jeopardize her worldwide reputation for the sake of endorsement bucks. Especially when her name figures amongst the richest people on earth. You may visit Oprah's website to watch the video of Bezos and Oprah giving a presentation called Kindle Class. Oprah Winfrey's recommendation of Kindle was double delight for many Kindle sellers this Christmas with a good turnaround.

The fact is that, there are a lot of wealthy people in the Silicon Valley, who cared more for the novelty and trendiness of the product as a gift than the asking price. People bought it like crazy breaking the supply chain of Amazon. Bidding wars broke out on used, brand new, unpacked and sealed kindles listed on eBay auctions. Craigslist and Amazon.com's second-hand product site had figures shooting up to US $1,500. Over 50 newspapers and hundreds of popular blogs wrote articles about Oprah and the kindle. All this means readied publicity and raised expectations. Amazon Kindle ebook reader and its future release is a must-experience for all book lovers and tech savvy, information hungry people. Are you as eager as me too?

The New Kindles Bring New Kindle 2 Cover Styles

The new Kindle 2.0 electronic readers that came out have a new sleek design that completely renders the old Kindle covers useless for this new version. As a result, the owners of the new Amazon Kindle will have to choose from new styles and brands when buying a Kindle 2 accessory to protect their reading device.

3rd party Kindle covers became popular because the original version didn't come with a very good cover, so as a result, many third party companies came up with their own Kindle covers to fill in the gap. Brands like M-edge and Belkin became very popular with Kindle owners. The new Kindles have completely different dimensions.

The New dimensions are 8" x 5.3" x 0.36". These new dimensions means the new version is thinner than the original Kindle. They are a somewhat lighter as well, but not enough to make a significant change in the kinds of materials needed to create a high quality Kindle cover. These new covers have all of the same features as the covers for the 1st model, including snap closures and a better design to keep the Kindle in place so it doesn't slide out.

Other models are available for the Kindle 2 such as zip pouches and Neoprene sleeve case covers and leather covers. Cole Haan, a producer of high-end leather covers perfect for business owners who want to impress for success is a new player in the Kindle cover market.

M-edge is still a big player for the Kindle covers in the new market. Some of their most popular models are the platform jacket and the prodigy jacket for the Kindle 2. The prodigy jacket comes in many colors of leather and has the standard book-cover style with a strap close mechanism (a strap that slips into a loop to keep it closed. Inside of the cover, there are reinforced loops that keep the Kindle secure.

The Platform jacket is a new style that came out for the Kindle 2. This style is made out of leather and also comes in many colors just like the other m-edge styles for the Kindle 1. The difference with the style of the Platform jacket is that it is rotated 90 degrees and the cover flips up like a notepad instead of to the side like a book. This construction allows the Kindle user to use the jacket as a Kindle stand when they turn the cover inside-out so they can experience hands free reading. Although this is clever, I don't know how many users will use this cover in this fashion because most people hold the Kindle to read it like they are holding a book. The stand feature could be useful if the reader has their hands full while they are reading (such as following a recipe).

Amazon also has created a new cover design for the new Kindle as well. Many of the complaints from the previous version of the cover have been addressed with this new version, although not all of them. The new version is very cost effective and get the job done, but was built for functionality and not luxury. There have been many more favorable reviews of this version.

The new features of the Kindle 2.0 will cause new types of accessories to be created to enhance this electronic reader. As people take advantage of these features, we will see additional accessories emerge. The Kindle cover is no exception to this rule. New brands and styles for the covers are already available and are being purchased by Kindle owners today. Protect your Kindle 2 with a stylish and functional cover so you can enjoy your electronic reader for years to come.
