For any readers who also own an iPad, Amazon has just taken aim at bringing in more sales through their Kindle iPad app by opening up a special Kindle store for iPad.
It is not actually built in to the Kindle app on the iPad, however. It is a separate store located on the web that can be used within the Safari app on the iPad.
Amazon, seems to have done this for several reasons. For one, they wanted to get more of a percentage on the book sales for Kindle. Apple changed the rules recently so that they took 30% of ebook sales within any app, including the Kindle app.
The second reason is likely simply to make it easier to iPad users to buy Kindle books and to give them another avenue to use to reach out to iPad users to buy books. Giving the store a touchscreen setup within Safari is a great way to give the Kinde store an iPad feel.
I do find the timing somewhat odd, given the current success of the Kindle Fire; however, Amazon still makes good revenue from Apple users, so I can’t say that I blame them!
