The Amazon Kindle DX - What's New?

Early May 2009 Amazon released their latest new Kindle the Kindle DX. The Kindle DX is a bigger - both in size and capacity than the Kindle 2 - ebook reader that includes many new features that customers have been asking for.

So what's in the Amazon Kindle DX that's so great, and do you really need one?

As you know probably already know, the Kindle is a wireless electronic book reader that allows you to store and read thousands of books in a small handheld device. It's white and sleek and many people are saying it's a must have gadget - just ask Oprah who featured it as one of her favourite things last year.

But back to the DX. What sets it apart from the Kindle 2?

The three biggest changes in the DX model is both the size of the machine, it's capacity and the fact that it now has support for PDF files.

The screen size is now a huge 9.7" compared to 6" for the Kindle 2, and you can read it both in portrait or if you turn it on its side, landscape which no previous Kindle has been able to do.

The actually machine is also about double the size of the regular Kindle.

The storage size of the Kindles have been gradually increasing too over time. In the original version, it could hold up to 200 books in its memory, the second version can currently hold around 1,500 books and the DX is capable of storing 3,500 books. That's a lot of reading!

The price difference between the two models may also be a factor as the Amazon Kindle DX is currently around $100 more than the regular one. So if budget is important, that's a consideration you need to take into account.

Overall the differences between the Kindle's is down to personal preference and which size and capacity you prefer.
