Some people are natural readers, and some people are not. That's what I used to think, I figured I could be the type of person that read everyday if I really wanted too, but I just never made it happen.
The people that I know that are daily readers just seem a little smarter than the people I know that are not. I'm not talking about reading the morning paper to get the sports scores, or checking the weather for that day, and definitely not the people that only read the horoscopes.
I'm talking about people that like to get into a book in their spare time or read educational books because they enjoy learning new things. I have a lot of respect for people like that, and wanted to be in that crowd since leaving school and starting my busy life working everyday.
I hate to admit it but over a 10 year period I have probably only read 4 books that I didn't have to for work or some other reason. I know people that read that many books in a weekend! There I was going through each day as if on auto pilot and nothing much ever changing from the normal routine.
Get up, get the kids up for school, make coffee, maybe make something for everyone to eat before they go, but probably everyone fending for themselves, that's usually what happens. I decide to check my email before leaving for work, I'm waiting for an answer about something I saw on eBay.
First thing I see is an add for the Amazon Kindle, yea sure if I was only one of those reader people I might think about buying one of those. No email, shoot! "I'm out of here!" "Call you later!"
On the way to work on the biggest billboard in town I see an add for the Amazon Kindle! Wow, that's some add campaign they are having, never noticed anything about Kindle before. At work I find out that one of my buddies that I consider an avid reader just bought a new Kindle Ebook Viewer for himself at a great price.
It took me a few days working on him but I was finally able to convince him to let me take it home and read with it that night. I can't believe he let me take it home as I don't think if it were mine that I would let him take it.
Kindle isn't like anything I've even seen before, not only does it feel really cool and modern its exactly what you read in the adds. Reads just like a real book, it really does! He had a Steven King book on there that he was reading and I decided to read some of what he was reading to get a feel for the Kindle.
I stayed up until almost 1am reading that darn book, it was fun and I didn't want to stop. Felt like a kid with a new toy that I just couldn't get enough of. The next morning when I went into work the first thing I saw was Brad asking about his Kindle, Oh shoot, I forgot that at home, I'll have to bring that in tomorrow. Sorry, its Friday, I'll have to bring it in to you on Monday.
No way! You are going to have to go home and bring that to my house tonight! I want to have it for this weekend, I've been planning on reading a couple of books. I really need you to bring it over tonight!!
I was just fooling around with Brad, it was in my bag but he was getting a little upset that I forgot to bring in his Kindle that he really didn't want to loan me in the first place. Sorry Brad, I just wanted to see what you would say.
It wasn't a week later that I bought a Kindle for myself and I'm good now for usually at least one book a week. Buying the Kindle was really out of the norm for me because I don't buy myself toys like this, but because of the fact that for years and years I've wanted to be one of those guys that always had something to say about the book he was reading, I decided to just get the darn thing.
If you have wanted to improve your reading, wake up your mind by taking in some good literature, or would like to read but never have had the time to deal with getting a new book to read, than the Kindle is something you would probably like to have and use.
If you've read all the way through this article you can tell how much I like having my Kindle, and the fact that I feel good about being a daily reader. I feel sharper and clearer, and I like telling people about it.
