Sony Kindle Showdown - Who Will Win?

When it comes to eBook readers then while there might be many on the market, there are only two in the game: Sony's Readers and Amazon's Kindle Readers. But what are the differences and which is the better model.

When put side by side, both interfaces are sleek and easy to use, they both use the same e-ink technology (which is meant to produce a pretty darn good simulation of regular paper) and both are around the same price.

In fact the only major difference between the two latest models from both companies is the fact that Sony hasn't made any of its digital readers wireless yet.

Sony does have some advantages including a touchscreen and front-light (the Kindle only has a backlight) and of course no DRM - which many Kindle owners are up in arms about.

But marketing is where Sony falls down in this race (or was it the fact that Oprah expressed her undying love of the Kindle on her favorite things show?) and that Amazon has double the amount of books to download, an extensive range of kindle covers to choose from and the front page of the biggest online store around (amazon.com) to promote from.

The wireless capabilities of the Kindle 2 and Kindle DX are still the number one reason that people choose a Kindle over Sony however because 1. it's free and 2. it makes downloading books to read a breeze.

Memory capacity (how many books it can hold) is also a major factor in many people's decision on which ebook reader to buy. Storage for Amazon's ebook reader of 1500 books or more makes Sony's reader look weak in comparison as it only holds 350 books.

Of course at the end of the day, it comes down to which one you like better, which one you think would suit your needs and of course, how many books you think you'll be reading in the future (is it even possible to read 1,500 books?)

If you are looking to make your Kindle look super cool then you probably need a Kindle Cover. Right now the Amazon Kindle Leather Cover is the bestselling cover for the Kindle 2 although many bright and funky designs are slowly becoming more popular.
