The latest device from Amazon, the Kindle DX is the largest and definitely the best today. When compared to the Kindle 2, the thing that is most noticeable is the size difference. The Kindle DX has a screen that is significantly larger than the Kindle 2; 2.5 times larger to be exact, and the amount of books that you're able to store on it, is twice as many than on the Kindle 2. Amazon reports that you can store in excess of 3000 eBooks on it. However, the devices larger size can also be seen as a hindrance, as the device weights more as a result of it.
Just like the Kindle 2, the new DX model is able to access the internet through Whispernet, which enables the user to be able to browse, select and purchase eBooks through the device without ever having to use a computer. It's also possible for you to adjust the text size and listen to MP3 tracks on it. The DX model also sports native PDF support, unlike the Kindle models that came before it. You can also decide whether you want the screen to be in portrait or landscape, depending on how you hold the device.
However, because the device is so similar to the Kindle 2, it has unfortunately inherited much of its flaws. The device still doesn't have a port to allow you to put in any SD cards for memory expansion, though, it's possible for you to delete eBooks when you're out of space and later download them without having to repurchase them. Lastly, the device is sold without any protective case or cover. You will have to purchase a hard cover separately. Despite the obvious flaws this device has, it's still one of the best eBook reading devices available on the market today.
