The new basic Kindle is a great buy for the cost (around $79) considering all the features included on it. And just what are some of the Kindle features?
First is the more compact, lighter design making this device easy to hold. It seems to fit better in your hands than previous Kindle devices.
Next is the E-Ink display. Similar to the K3, there is no glare enabling you to sit in sunlight and easily read your favorite stories. The screen also is nice in that extra keys have been eliminated. The 5-way controller permits you on-screen navigation for various functions such as looking up words or highlighting text. Unless you do a great deal of searching on your Kindle, the absence of external keys allows for a much more enjoyable reading experience. The Kindle e-reader's design allows it to be held easily while you are reading with page-turning buttons on both sides for easy page turning with either hand. The pages also turn much faster thanks to the powerful processor.
The ability to store close to 1,400 books gives you more than ample space for your e-library. While other devices may hold more, the real question is why you would need more. Of course, future book additions may be a consideration here. There is also an automatic back up of all your library items thanks to the Cloud. You never need to be concerned about losing any of your books. You can simply re-download wirelessly for free at anytime.
The Kindle's Wi-Fi capability is convenient for downloading content at all Wi-Fi hotspots. The stated battery life is one month. This is less than the two months for the K3 or Touch, but one month seems quite acceptable considering how often most people need to recharge their cell phones.
Probably one of the greatest things about the new basic Kindle is the price. Considering the rising prices of printed books the price spent purchasing a new Kindle will quickly be recovered within the first few book purchases.
Of course there is also the Amazon Prime membership to consider as well. Joining this membership allows you to borrow from thousands of books for free.
There are some negatives such as no audio, keyboard, lack of covers available and possible non-transfer of some games from previous devices. The Kindle, however, still makes a fantastic e-reading device, which is, of course, its main purpose.
Taking into account the many features of the new basic Kindle, as well as the low price, this reading device makes a wonderful addition to any avid reader's life.
