Here is a hands on review of the Amazon Kindle DX for sale. Kindle has revolutionized the concept of reading and the 3rd Generation ebook reader, DX is one step closer to the paperless society in the making. This edition has once again outpaced it's competitors and looks as promising it can be.
So what are the salient feature upgrades?
If you consider the function keys, ease of navigation, joystick etc the DX functions like Kindle2, except for the fact that, this time the navigation keys are on the right hand side. Your concern about the lack of navigation on the left can rest assured, because it is unidirectional. Just flip it upside down by a whole 180 degrees, the display rotates along with it automatically like iPhone, to become a left handed one. So you can use it either hand to navigate leaving the other hand completely free. I have a habit of reading while lying down on my bed a lot of times. Now it's so much easier to read from any alignment and go from portrait to landscape and vice versa in a jiffy.
The most tempting feature is it's PDF reading ability with ultra ease, irrespective of the file size or complexity of the graphics. Now even if you have a heavy pdf, converted from powerpoint, coreldraw or else, it just reads fine with minimum loading time just like a PC but in B/W. Multiple columns or a single one, detailed pictures and diagrams, everything renders perfectly. This was indeed a big hitch with the K2. The bigger display screen coupled with the smart rotation feature makes it all the more convenient to use. So you must be thinking what if the print is straining the eye, just preset the font size and viola. Yes we are not in luck with the much desired zoom feature but changing the font size is easily possible.
The DX is slightly heavier than last time, but doesn't compromise on the ergonomics or the reading experience in any way. In fact, I say, it is now feels a little more like a hard bound book. The pre-release photos on the web made it look larger than it really is, but in reality the overall size of DX is just perfect for mobile reading. The digital e ink is definitely sharper on the new portable device.
Newspapers and magazines, basically all print productions tend to have a lot of tabulations and this made it less convenient to read in the last ebook reader. With DX, you are going to thank the large screen size like nobody's business. The first impression is almost like finding water in an oasis. Seriously it is such a big breather.
Both the DX and Kindle 2 are superb value for money. And If you love reading books, the amazon content, newspapers, pdf's and want to read with larger fonts, you would definitely want to settle for the new version. For my needs, I would like the latter any day.
