Amazon Kindle 3 Wi Fi, 3G or DX? Which Ebook Reader Suits You Best?

The Amazon Kindle 3 which has revolutionized the way people read, comes in 3 different models. One of the most common questions you see people asking these days is "Should I buy the Wi Fi model, 3G model or the DX model of Kindle 3"?

This completely depends on your personal requirements. Let us tackle each component separately.

Do you need the Wi Fi only model or Do you need the Wi Fi + 3G model?

The only reason you need Wi Fi and/or 3G is to download ebooks to your reading device. If you are constantly at home or office and your home or office has a regular Wi Fi internet connection, you can download all the books you need with that wireless internet connection. However, if you are always on the road traveling for business and or leisure, you may not be in front of a wireless internet connection that often. In such instances, you may need the 3G model of the ereader so that you can download ebooks even while you're on the go.

In conclusion, if you rarely travel, you can save the extra $50 you have to pay for the WiFi + 3G version and be happy with the WiFi only model. However, if you travel more than you are at home, you have no option but to invest on a Kindle with both 3G and WiFi connectivity.

Do you need the smaller Kindle 3 or do you need the Kindle DX?

This is another question a lot of people ask these days. The DX, with a screen that is approximately 10 inches diagonally, is nearly $200 more expensive than the smaller version. The larger screen would also mean a heavier weight and a bulkier presence where ever you wish to carry it. It's not so comfortable to your hold either. If you recall all those images of pretty women holding Kindles, the smaller Kindle is held with a single hand while the larger DX is held with both hands. In other words, if you are relaxing on the beach and wanting to read your favorite novel on a DX, you might have to hold it with all your might using both your hands. Now that may not necessarily be the ideal relaxed way of reading your favorite novel.

However, if you have a need for a larger font size and the large screen altogether, and you don't mind spending that extra $200, the Kindle DX might be the right choice for you.
