Is Kindle 2's E-Screen Pleasing?

In designing their electronic reader, Amazon wanted to get readers lost in reading, not in technology. They have accomplished this goal with the Kindle 2. It uses the same kind of ink you find in books, only it displays the ink electronically. You can literally tan yourself on the beach and read a mystery on your electronic device at the same time. Amazon says the device uses 16 different shades of gray, which portrays visual nuance for your brain.

If you wear glasses, contacts, bifocals you are in for a treat. Everyone who has any kind of impaired vision rave about the Kindle's improvement over the earlier version. Simply put, the screen is easier on the eyes and allows you to read for a long time without much straining your organs.

One thing that you can't do with a book is change the font size. This is a benefit of the Kindle 2 that readers with poor eyesight will appreciate greatly. There are six different font sizes to choose from and it is easy to change. You will probably find the size you like and just stick with it for everything you read. But having this ability is revolutionary!

Kindle 2 will show much more than just Microsoft Word documents this time around. On your screen, you can view PDF, TXT, HTML, JPEG, GIF, MOBI, and other kinds of documents. One anecdote, the PDF title screen is full of depth unlike similar devices which seem to strip it down to simple text. Sure, the visuals are not the same quality you find on your PC, but they are the quality you found on your PC a few years ago. If you plan on doing a lot of PDF reading, you should look into the Kindle DX, which has a native PDF reader whereas the Kindle 2 requires conversion at the computer.

The screen is better than anything on the market and a major improvement over its predecessor. It's more like reading a paperback book than it's like reading a tech device. At least it is the closest to a book you can experience today.
